repost from @dennisbakersj Congratulations to Father John Pignone, S.J. On Saturday morning, he was ordained a Roman Catholic priest at Fordham. On Sunday evening, he celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving at Xavier. He is a holy man of humble heart and it was a thrill to be with him. AMDG
Who's going to tell him Historically, "Roman Catholic" became popular as a polemical label, especially in English-speaking Protestant countries after the Reformation. Anglicans in particular used it to imply that Catholics were merely the church of Rome, rather than the universal (catholic) Church. The implication was essentially: "You're not the Catholic Church. You're just the Roman branch." Catholics often accepted the term in ordinary conversation because it distinguished them from Anglicans, Lutherans, and later Old Catholics, but it has never been the Church's formal name. #catholic #christian #jesus #meme #funny
Henry Cavill, born in 1983 in Jersey, Channel Islands, is the fourth of five brothers raised in a Roman Catholic family. He attended Catholic school growing up and has spoken about his faith in multiple interviews over the years. In an interview with Men’s Fitness, he said simply: “I believe in God.” In a 2024 interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, he spoke about his love of singing at church and said he would love one day to see how far he could take it. He was also photographed in Rome wearing a shirt with a single word on it: “SALVATION.” The photos went viral. He was standing in front of a traditional altar with an image of Christ behind him. As a Roman Catholic, I found the President’s unhinged attack on Pope Leo XIV abhorrent. This came after Good Friday services were cancelled by Pete Hegseth and a high level Pentagon official made a veiled threat of using military force to replace the leader of the Catholic Church. Our Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and separation of church and state. For a U.S. President to threaten the head of the Church because he preaches a message of peace is ethically, morally and constitutionally wrong. At what point will my colleagues say enough is enough?
The Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor) is a Roman Catholic minor basilica atop Mount Tibidabo in Barcelona, Spain. Built between 1902 and 1961 by architect Enric Sagnier and his son, it features a Neo-Byzantine crypt, a Neo-Gothic upper church, and a bronze Christ statue offering 360-degree city views. In Parliament, I recently congratulated Archbishop Anthony Randazzo, the Roman Catholic Bishop for our area, on being requested by the Vatican to become the Prefect of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts. @bb.catholic
This Statement accurately reflects the words spoken by Pulitzer Prize-winning American author and historian Garry Wills. The quote is taken directly from an interview and lecture tour he gave following the 2017 release of his book, “What the Qur’an Meant: And Why It Matters”.Context of the QuoteThe Full Statement: During his discussions about the book, Wills explained that since Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all stem from Abrahamic monotheism, they ultimately worship the exact same God. He noted that “Allah” is simply the Arabic word for God, used by both Arab Muslims and Arab Christians. Wills’ Personal Beliefs: Despite his deep appreciation for the Qur’an and his defense of its inclusivity, Garry Wills did not convert to Islam. He remains a practicing, prominent Roman Catholic scholar and intellectual. The Theological Argument: In his talks, Wills emphasized that Jesus is recognized as a profound prophet in the Qur’an. He argued that because monotheists believe in only one God, a Christian praising the one Creator is conceptually directing their worship to the same entity known in the Arabic language as Allah.
Mozart’s haunting Lacrimosa. 🖤 One of the most celebrated choral works in classical music, the ‘Lacrimosa’, meaning ‘weeping’, is part of the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass (a mass for the dead), reflecting grief, the plea for mercy, and the hope for eternal rest on the day of judgment. It is performed here by the Bach Choir and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under Anthony Gabriele at Classic FM Live. The story of Mozart’s Requiem was famously dramatised in Peter Shaffer’s play and film ‘Amadeus’, in which Antonio Salieri is portrayed as the jealous composer and shadowy figure behind Mozart’s death.
