Squalane vs. Squalene
Squalene, a lipid found naturally in plants, animals and human skin, is an effective moisturizer. The squalene found in our helps to keep our skin hydrated as well as maintain the barrier. But as we age, we produce less of it and when we apply it topically, it can help restore the barrier and keep us hydrated. The problem with squalene is that it can be a bit greasy for oily or acne-prone skin and it tends to have a short shelf life.
Enter Squalane
Squalane, a more stable, lighter-weight, hydrogenated version of squalene. Lab-made squalane, typically derived from squalene that’s extracted from sugarcane or olives, mimics the skin’s own natural oils so it’s easily tolerated by all skin types, including the most sensitive.
No side effects. It’s great for all skin types including sensitive skin and it does not clog pores so it can used by those with oily or acne-prone skin.

Misconception #1: “Squalane mimics the squalene in your skin.”
Not quite.
While squalane is often marketed this way, it does not have the same molecular structure as the squalene your skin naturally produces.
And that difference matters.
Your skin recognises and works best with bio-identical lipids — like olive squalene — which help support hydration, antioxidant protection and skin barrier repair.
Understanding this difference is key to choosing what truly supports your skin.

If you’re on the skin-care side of Instagram or TikTok, chances are you’ve seen the words “Skin Cycling” floating around recently. Maybe you’ve noticed friends using the hashtag#️⃣ #Skincycling in their posts, or heard it mentioned as part of influencers’ skin-care regimes. Clearly, skin cycling is popular, but what is this buzzy practice, and is it the step your skin-care routine is missing?🧐 Despite its name, “skin cycling” is not a spin workout for your epidermis. Instead, it’s a term used to describe the way products are applied to the skin. Skin cycling ideally should be done at night the time of skin repair and reset. Divide the weekday into four active days:
✅ Day 1 – Chemical exfoliant such as AHA /BHA can be used as a combination or single ingredient depending on skin reactivity .You can start with a PHA incase you have sensitive skin. Always apply a moisturiser over it before sleeping.😴
✅ Day 2 – Retinol is the gold standard in antiaging, repairing collagen and elastin. You can start with a retinol gentle formulation. Do the sandwich technique when in doubt by applying a moisturiser specially to sensitive areas of the face🧏🏻♀ like eyes, lip corners ,apply the retinol and then apply the moisturiser again.
✅ Day 3 & 4 – These are the rest , No active ingredient days . Use a moisturiser containing ceramides, glycerin,🧪 squalene, NMF on the face to hydrate the skin and let the sleep be active free.
✅ Day 5- Repeat the entire process again.♾
If you have a skin condition, like acne or rosacea, I suggest you talk to your dermatologist to personalise your skin-cycling regimen, especially if you’re taking a prescription medication 💊for your skin.

S-Nature Aqua’s Squalane is one of those well-kept K-beauty secrets — a low-key fave in Korea, and for good reason. It’s rich in squalane, a skin-mimicking ingredient that locks in moisture, strengthens your barrier, improves elasticity, and helps maintain that youthful look. This cream one also contains other anti wrinkles ingredients such as peptides and adenosine to really boost the anti-aging benefits and support overall skin health.

Why are we still using ingredients that come from sharks…
when alternatives exist?
Squalene is used in skincare — but it doesn’t have to come from animals.
The same molecule exists in plants. Inlcuding Seaweed!
Same function. Different source. Different choice.
What would you choose?
