Australia’s worst #superannuation have been revealed in the #apra performance test designed to protect #superfund members from dodgy #investment performance
EPA’s site teams clean up hazardous materials daily—but unfortunately, not all pollution comes clearly labeled! Tag along with our removal team for #Superfund101 to learn what we do when faced with unknown substances. By carefully categorizing hazardous waste—aka HazCat—site teams figure out what chemicals they’re dealing with, what the risks are to nearby communities and ecosystems, and how to remove the chemicals safely. At this particular site in La Porte, Indiana, crews found hundreds of barrels of oils, acids, flammables and solvents to HazCat. Stay updated on our work at this site at our link in bio!
Australian women, on average, retire with $136,000 less super than men. But thanks to the magic of compound interest, there are five super simple steps early-career women can take to help dramatically close that gap! (Also yes, men and nonbinary folk can do them too.) This is the first part of a three-part series from @mattieunofficial on boosting your super. Find the rest of the videos in our feed. This advice is general and does not take an individual’s specific circumstances into account. #genderpaygap #superannuation #superfund
💧 A groundwater treatment system at a #superfund site in Doylestown, Pennsylvania is now complete — helping to ensure the protection of affected communities and moving these sites closer in the direction of potential redevelopment.  From the mid-1960s to the late 1970s, Chem Fab, Inc. operated an electroplating and metal etching facility which stored and disposed of processing chemicals on-site.   Groundwater underlying the Site is contaminated with metals, volatile organic compounds, and per-and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS).   $2.9 million from the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law expedited the cleanup.  Click our link 🔗 in bio to learn more about our proposed cleanup plan.
We found that 56% of the EPA’s federal facility Superfund Five-Year Reviews, or FYRs, were not publicly available through the Superfund FYR website search tool, and about 15% of nonfederal facility Superfund FYRs were similarly unavailable. Although some of the missing FYRs were available on other site pages, inconsistent locations can impede public access and impair governmental transparency. This is why I don’t trust industry super funds. A portfolio manager once told me something that stunned me. He said he hates government bonds, thinks they’re a guaranteed loss… but he’s forced by law to put his clients into them anyway. 40% of their portfolio, locked into something he doesn’t even believe in. And if he refuses? He loses his license, his income, his ability to feed his family. So he keeps putting people into assets he’d never choose for himself. That’s why I set up a self-managed super fund and put my own retirement into bullion instead, and it has absolutely crushed the returns of the major industry super funds. . . . . #gold #silver #superfund #retirement #australia #investing #wealth #bullion #smsf

Decades of PFAS warnings ignored. Military use since 70s. Industry 'safe' studies. Finally, hazardous under Superfund law in 2024. #PFAS #EnvironmentalLaw #ToxicChemicals #Superfund #EnvironmentalProtection #Pollution
🏭 @epa_northeastandcaribbean is tackling over a century of industrial contamination in three major segments for the cleanup at the Gowanus Canal Superfund Site. ✅ EPA recently completed dredging and capping in the first part - the upper segment of the canal. 🚧 Two massive tanks (8-million-gallon and 4-million-gallon) are under construction to control Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs), preventing contamination from being discharged into the canal. 🔨 Right now, the EPA is working on the second part - the middle section of the canal - with new bulkhead walls being built to support the dredging process, which will continue into 2026. We are doing the work needed to begin work on the third and final section. Join us in supporting this essential cleanup effort! 🎥 Watch Remedial Project Manager, Tom Mongelli, at the Gowanus Canal #Superfund #GowanusCanal
Certain contaminants—like lead and arsenic—that can pose risks to human health occur naturally in the environment. These same kinds of contaminants can also be deposited by industrial activities, like mining and smelting. So, how can you tell the difference between what’s naturally occurring and what’s the result of industrial pollution? One way is through a background study. During this kind of study, Superfund site teams find an area close enough to a Superfund site to have a similar geologic profile but far enough away not to have been affected by industrial activities. Comparing “background” data from soil in these areas to soils data from an affected site helps EPA understand how much contamination exists due to industrial activities. This, in turn, helps site teams determine an appropriate cleanup level for an affected site. In July, thanks to volunteers and neighbors in the Helena Valley, EPA conducted a background study to help determine how much lead occurs naturally in soils in the area. This data will be compared to soils data from East Helena, where some properties remain contaminated by lead and arsenic due to more than 100 years of a former smelting operation.
📲 It’s time to “Ask a #CommunityInvolvementCoordinator”! ❓Our #QuestionOfTheDay = What’s a #Superfund Five-Year Review? ➡️ Here’s Olivia, a Region 1 Community Involvement Coordinator, to tell us more about the Five-Year Review process. 🔗 Interested in finding out which #Superfund Five-Year Reviews are coming up? Check out the link in our bio! 💭 #DidYouKnow: The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) of 1980 is informally called Superfund. It allows EPA to clean up contaminated sites and forces responsible parties to either perform cleanups or reimburse the government for EPA-led cleanup work.
