Congratulations to Samina, who has been part of Haileybury Almaty since Year 1 and is now preparing for an exciting new chapter at the University of Edinburgh.
Samina received offers from universities in both the UK and the US, including King’s College London, the University of Bath, the University of Warwick, City University of London, Michigan State University, UC Riverside and UC Merced.
She has chosen the University of Edinburgh for its Scottish academic programme, which will allow her to explore different subjects during the first two years of her degree — something especially important to Samina, who has a wide range of interests she hopes to develop at university.
Congratulations, Samina. We are very proud of you and excited to see where your journey at Edinburgh will take you.

During a tense campus debate, a biology student from UC Riverside confronted Charlie Kirk on the moral value of human life versus animal life. When Kirk posed a classic ethical dilemma—asking whether the student would save one hundred dogs or a single human life—the student hesitated, questioning if human life is always paramount. In a personal pivot, the student remarked that they would choose to save one dog over Kirk’s own life. While the statement drew sharp gasps and laughter from the audience, Kirk used the moment to highlight what he describes as a pervasive and deeply concerning philosophical shift within modern universities.
Kirk argued that this exchange was not merely a shocking personal comment, but symptomatic of a broader moral rot festering within higher education. For Kirk, the fact that a biology student—someone studying the science of life—could struggle to affirm the fundamental and unique sanctity of human life over animals is a direct failure of academic institutions. He asserted that modern universities have drifted away from foundational moral and ethical truths, prompting him to call for a drastic political response, including the defunding of public universities that promote worldviews which devalue human life.
This confrontation underscores a profound ideological divide in contemporary society. Historically, both religious and secular human rights frameworks have placed a distinct, inviolable sanctity on human life. However, critics argue that the rise of radical environmentalism and deep ecology in academia has eroded these foundations, leveling the moral distinction between humans and animals. This debate forces us to examine the ultimate purpose of higher education: should universities strictly act as centers of scientific and technical instruction, or do they bear a responsibility to uphold and instill the Western moral traditions that preserve human dignity?
Does this interaction reveal a deeper ethical crisis within modern higher education, or was it simply an extreme personal statement by a single student?
Our event at UC Riverside was sabotaged by masked leftist protestors and the UCR administration.
UCR admin would not allow #WalkAway to have amplified sound, while all other student groups were allowed to.
We tried to carry on without microphones and speakers, then a group of masked protesters came and shouted out to make it impossible for the students who wanted to engage with us to be able to hear or speak.
Shameful, UC Riverside.
