The Miss Bangladesh Organization has formally initiated review and investigation action regarding serious ethical and governance concerns connected to Bangladesh’s representation at Miss Eco International @missecointernational

At the center of these allegations are claims by the National Contestant involved in defamation, fraud and criminal intimidation. The national contestant spoke to clear her name stating that financial inducements and unauthorized dealings were initiated by the International Director to manipulate decisions tied to an international titleholder process.

If proven true, this is not merely a violation of international contract policy, it is a betrayal of the trust placed in international women’s platforms that claim to stand for dignity, merit, and empowerment.

No crown, title, or international affiliation is worth compromising institutional integrity.

For years, many young women have entered pageantry believing it to be a platform of discipline, intelligence, advocacy, and national representation. Turning such a platform into a marketplace of backdoor transactions is disgraceful to every contestant who worked honestly for her place.

As Chairperson of the Miss Bangladesh Organization, Meghna Alam chose not to stay silent, despite immense pressure, reputational risk, and personal attacks.
This action is driven by principle.

We understand the gravity of these allegations and therefore all relevant evidence, communications, and documentation are being preserved and reviewed through formal processes. We believe accountability must apply equally whether the individual is local or international, influential or unknown.

Bangladesh’s representation on the global stage cannot and will not be dictated by corruption, intimidation, or hidden transactions.

We stand for transparency. We stand for institutional dignity. And above all, we stand for the countless young women who deserve a system built on fairness rather than favoritism. by @tahrin_jerin

During my stay in the Philippines, I met with Judy Miranda-Chan, General Secretary of the Philippines Labour Party. We discussed the shared struggles of the working class, especially under worsening climate and labor conditions.

I then visited two scavenger-based communities in Smokey Mountain, Manila. One has built a modest yet stable life over decades through self-organization, community-led recycling, and strong women-led leadership.

Further away, another community faces far harsher realities. Their floating homes are constantly destroyed by heavy rainfall that they have to rebuild again and again. Despite repeated requests, the government failed to relocate them without risking their only source of income, garbage sorting. They earn just about 200 to 400 pesos a day. Underpaid, unprotected, and often harassed by police demanding bribes. Many comply just to avoid losing what little they have. Meanwhile, the sorted plastic they collect fuels corporate profit elsewhere.

One young woman shared that she started sorting waste at age eight. At 23, her life remains tied to the same work conditions. Their labor sustains the city, yet their lives remain unseen.

They are not disposable. Their demands for housing, healthcare, and labor rights are urgent and deeply just. Their fight deserves visibility, solidarity, and change. taken in Tondo, Manila, Philippines by @tahrin_jerin
