Villa Necchi Campiglio | Milan

Built between 1932 and 1935 by Piero Portaluppi for the Necchi Campiglio family, this Milanese villa was conceived as a vision of modern life.

Entering through the grand hall, marble, wood, mirrors and geometric details lead through rooms where architecture and interiors merge. Portaluppi approached the villa as a Gesamtkunstwerk, extending his design from the architectural structure to selected pieces of furniture.

Upstairs, the private rooms become more intimate. Black marble was integrated into the master bathroom, using a particular stone that can no longer be found. On the highest floor, the staff quarters, Portaluppi’s attention to detail continues, from hand-carved door handles to bookmatched wooden cabinet doors.

The villa also featured a private swimming pool and according to FAI, the first private swimming pool in the city.

Today, Villa Necchi Campiglio is preserved as a house museum by FAI and remains open to the public.

Villa Monastero | Verenna, Lake Como | Italy

Originally a Cistercian women’s monastery founded at the end of the 12th century, the complex was transformed into a residence by the Mornico family in the 17th century.

Over the following centuries, several owners reshaped the buildings typology, culminating in its distinctive character with Nordic influences under Walter Kees between 1897 and 1909.

In 1939, the De Marchi family donated the villa to the Italian State, transforming it into a public cultural institution.

Open to the public, the villa comprises 14 historic rooms and a nearly 2 km long botanical garden stretching along the lakefront, cultivating rare and exotic plant species. by @taiima.ma
