Keke’s zoomies have officially upgraded to bunny hops and the happy tears are flowing over here.

At 10 weeks old, Keepsake has discovered her new favorite mouse toy, and apparently, walking simply isn’t exciting enough anymore, so now we all get to enjoy her version of running. Watching Keke discover life’s joys day by day has been a constant reminder of just how much we have to appreciate. Only weeks ago, her bones were so brittle that we worried about additional fractures with even the smallest movements. She was confined to an incubator lined with soft blankets to keep her safe.

Now she shuffles around without pain or worry, chases her toys and even hops! While her front legs in particular still have some abnormalities, she’s having zero issues getting around and we couldn’t be happier to see her thriving.

We are endlessly grateful for Keke’s foster mom, Casey, who has carried her through every challenge thrown their way, and for the veterinary team that has supported them through it all.

There is something incredibly special about watching a tiny kitten who once had to be protected from every movement now move through the world with so much joy. Go, Keke! 🗝️💖 by @tailshigh

Caturday cozy canoodling with brothers from another mother Bobby and Bart. This adorable duo has had their fair share of trouble finding the perfect forever home and we think, to be frank, that sucks! These perfect boys deserve THE WORLD! Can you help us find their people?

While they certainly don’t need to be adopted as a pair, they get along so well. From one sensitive dude to another, they’ve always just clicked. Bobby is the little bit of shy to Bart’s little bit of wild child. And they’re both, quite obviously, so very handsome.

We’re stumped as to what keeps happening for these perfect boys from having a false start at happily ever after. They just haven’t found the right fit yet. We’re hopeful this is a Goldilocks situations and “just right” is around the corner.

So give Bobby and Bart a share. Maybe you know someone that has excellent taste in felines that will come across this post and see their silly faces and want both of them because that would be the smartest decision ever. Submit an adoption application on our website to be considered. 🖤🖤 by @tailshigh

Elysian is a fluffy 2-year-old girl with a heart of gold and enough floof to qualify as her own weather system. Breathtakingly beautiful with her dreamy face and magnificent pantaloons, she looks a little like an ethereal creature who wandered out of a fairytale. Her foster family, however, occasionally sees more of an abominable snowman resemblance. Both can be true.

Elysian is a total sweetie with a calm, gentle nature. She takes just a little time to warm up to new people, but once she feels comfortable, her spunky little personality starts to emerge. She loves to play, especially with her sister Vesper, and frequently shows off those floofy pantaloons with some impressively big stretchies. She’s snuggly, affectionate, and will even occasionally let you hold her like a baby. And really, Elysian is very baby.

Her interests are surprisingly sophisticated for such a fluffy little creature. Elysian has developed a fascination with the television and is particularly invested in true crime documentaries, with the occasional cartoon thrown in for balance. Screen time will absolutely need to be worked into her forever family’s routine.

Elysian has blossomed beautifully in her foster home and continues to show that there’s a whole lot of personality underneath all that fur. She would love a feline friend in her forever home and would likely fit right in with a friendly resident kitty. If you happen to be looking for two, her equally fluffy sister Vesper is also adoptable, and together they would make a pretty spectacular pair of floofy besties for life.

Ethereal fairytale creature, part-time abominable snowman, true crime enthusiast, professional snuggler. Elysian really does have it all. Submit an adoption application on our website to be considered and please share her so we can find her the best family! 🤍 by @tailshigh

“They will always be our family and if for any reason you can’t keep them, they can always come back to us.” We tell every adopter this from the beginning, hoping that day never comes. It can feel unnatural to discuss returning a cat during such a happy time, but we’d rather adopters remember they have a supportive community to fall back on than the alternative.

Morning Star was adopted with her brother as kittens 4 years ago. They were best friends who found the perfect family as a bonded pair. We envisioned them growing up together, always having each other. Unfortunately, every adoption doesn’t turn out how we plan.

A couple of weeks ago, Morning Star’s family reached out because her temperament had completely changed over several months following a move. She no longer enjoyed being pet, was often hiding, and had become aggressive toward her brother. Unfortunately, she had not seen a veterinarian. The family tried separating and reintroducing them, but each attempt failed.

While we never want a cat’s world turned upside down, sometimes returning to rescue is the second chance they need. Morning Star saw our vet team immediately after her return and fortunately, there were no immediate medical concerns. She was prescribed medication for anxiety and is decompressing in a foster home. It’s clear she is sad, confused, and likely misses her family, but she’s getting better every day.

The number of requests we receive to intake owner surrenders is astounding and has grown exponentially in recent years. We wish we could help every cat facing the uncertainty of a family that can no longer keep them, but it’s impossible. Having space to welcome one of our own back home, however, is non-negotiable. It’s why we must be responsible with every other intake decision. The possibility of a cat needing to return is always there, and quite frankly, it keeps us up at night. The what if.

Morning Star is showing more of her adorable personality. We know this beautiful girl will eventually be ready for a second chance at forever. For now, she is exactly where she belongs, getting exactly what she needs, and for that, we are grateful. 🌟 by @tailshigh

Just a perfect girl patiently waiting to be chosen.

Buttermilk Betsy is one of those cats who makes it very easy to wonder how she hasn’t found her forever family yet. From her heart-shaped nose to the constant purrs, enthusiastic Buttermilk biscuit-making and silly little run when she realizes attention is available, Betsy simply loves love.

She’s never met a stranger. Everyone is a friend, and anyone willing to provide pets or treats is immediately promoted to best friend. She’s affectionate, playful, independent enough to entertain herself when you’re busy, and happiest when she can settle in beside you and simply do life together.

Betsy has also adjusted amazingly well to sharing her foster home with other kitties. She’d be happy joining a family with another cat or two, but she’s independent enough to be perfectly content as your one and only, as long as she has her humans to love.

Betsy was diagnosed with feline asthma after we noticed some respiratory sounds shortly after she arrived in foster care. She’s a healthy girl and her asthma is easily managed with one small daily pill that she happily eats in her food. We’re always happy to talk through her care with potential adopters.

Fun, silly, affectionate, adaptable and ridiculously adorable. Buttermilk Betsy really is the whole package. Now she just needs someone to choose her. 🤍 by @tailshigh

Anyone that has worked towards a goal knows that it can be discouraging to put in so much effort and feel like you’re still so far from the finish line. That’s how cat rescue feels the majority of the time. You sacrifice. You dedicate the time. And still, it feels like there’s no end in sight. That is why the times we see transformations happen before our eyes are so meaningful. We know that significant change has happened and even if it’s just for one (or in this case, two) cats, the trajectory of their whole life is now better.

Evermore and Serendipity came to us about 6 weeks ago. They were both saved from a property where so much suffering and heartache has transpired for years but have the sweetest dispositions. We were grateful to fundraise to have their significant dental issues taken care of swiftly after intake and have patiently waited to see them feel better.

Over the last week or so, these girls have physically turned a new leaf. Their eyes are more clear, their energy has shifted, and they seem so much more comfortable. It’s amazing what proper veterinary care and a lot of TLC from a loving foster mom can do. We’re so grateful for all of the work Mary has poured into these sweethearts.

Evie and Dippy (their adorable nicknames) are still settling in and getting comfortable but they love pets, make lots of biscuits with enthusiasm, and purr deeply. They’re more shy than some kitties and will need patient adopters willing to let them learn to trust with time, but they’re amazing little girls. We’re hopeful they will be ready for adoption soon but in the meantime, we’re loving watching them blossom.

Thank you for all of your support to make transformations like this possible. From painful drooling, barely able to eat, to asking for seconds and thirds at meal time… these resilient girls are very grateful! by @tailshigh

Is the belly a trap? Guess you’ll have to find out for yourself and give her a boop while you’re at it. Vesper is ready for some serious Sunday snuggles but she’s wondering where her forever family is.

We’re shocked that Vessy hasn’t received approximately one million adoption applications. She’s sweet, silly, sassy, and sooo floofy! While she’s had some interest, we are really hoping for an adopter that already has another kitty for Vesper to befriend because she thrives with company. If you’re thinking about a pair, Vesper’s sister, Elysian, who is her shy twin, would make the darn cutest duo you’ve ever seen.

Give Vesper a share so we can find the perfect family for her and submit an adoption application on our website to be considered. 🤍 by @tailshigh

A month ago, we were afraid Keepsake’s future might look very different. Today, she keeps giving us new reasons to believe just how bright it can be.

When Keke began showing signs of brittle bones, fractures and delayed development in mid-August, we diligently sought answers with some of the best veterinarians in our network. Osteogenesis imperfecta, a rare brittle-bone disorder with a poor prognosis and no treatment, was initially our greatest concern.

Specialized testing through Michigan State University instead confirmed a significant vitamin D deficiency. We believe it is connected to the Breeder’s Edge formula she had been receiving, which has since been recalled over nutritional concerns.

Since changing her formula and addressing her nutritional needs, little by little, Keke has started changing too. First came playing and her very first Keke zoomies, even if they happened in slow motion. Now she is more mobile, stronger and full of so much more energy. She’s made a new big-sister friend in Clara Bow, officially weaned onto wet food and is even using the litter box all by herself (!!!), something we once worried her limited mobility might make difficult.

Keepsake still has abnormal bone structure, particularly in her front legs, but kittens’ bones are constantly growing and remodeling at this age. We’re hopeful that as her bones continue getting stronger, we’ll see even more improvement. It certainly isn’t stopping Keke from enjoying being a kitten.

Her vitamin D was retested this week and sent back to MSU to determine whether she needs additional supplementation. Her records and formula have also been provided to UC Davis for investigation related to the recall.

We wish Keke never had to go through any of this, but we are incredibly grateful the cause was identified while her growing little body has such an opportunity to recover. Thanks to the diligent care of her foster mom, Casey, the tiny kitten we once feared was facing an untreatable condition is getting stronger before our eyes.

Keep going, Keke. You’re just getting started. 🗝️💖 by @tailshigh

If your cat has been asking for a best friend and you’ve been asking for a cuddle buddy, Wren would like to apply for both jobs.

At 4 months old, this gorgeous little torbie is the whole package. She’s playful, fearless, hilarious, incredibly sweet and equally devoted to feline friendship and human snuggles.

Wren has never met a human or feline stranger. The tails of bigger cats are fair game, toes are meant to be hunted, and no toy or tunnel is safe from her determination. She’s even figured out how to attack the balls in her tower from the center, because apparently playing with toys the normal way is too easy.

She keeps herself entertained and the other kitties in her foster home on their toes, which is exactly why Wren needs a feline friend in her forever home who will appreciate her enthusiasm.

Once the day’s adventures are over, Wren takes her cuddling responsibilities very seriously. She’ll curl up against her foster family’s neck for a good night’s sleep, stretch across your chest while you read a book, or settle into your lap with a very satisfied purr.

She loves kids and adults. She loves other cats. She’ll make you laugh every single day and then fall asleep on you like she didn’t just spend the last hour causing tiny kitten chaos.

And as if all of that weren’t enough, Wren is stunning. Her torbie coat is developing more and more orange as she grows, and we’re still waiting to see whether she’ll ever fully grow into those magnificent ears.

We’re genuinely stumped that this little girl hasn’t found her family yet. Wren really can do it all, and whoever adopts her is going to wonder how they ever lived without her. Submit an adoption application in our website to be considered. 🤎 by @tailshigh

Yellow Brick Road isn’t so yellow anymore. And she has her very best friend, Kristin, to thank for that. It’s been a few weeks since we’ve updated you on Yellie, and it’s apparent from these photos that she looks and feels so much better.

Three weeks ago, Yellow Brick Road was spotted lying in a pile of rubble at a brick factory in WV. A Good Samaritan feared she had been hit by a car, and we got her to the emergency vet. No obvious injuries were found, but her neurological presentation and unknown vaccination history raised concerns about possible rabies exposure, and humane euthanasia was recommended.

We faced a difficult decision, but Yellie had someone equipped to safely quarantine her. That little voice in our head and heart told us she would be okay. So we gave her a chance.

Since then, Yellie has shown us that sure, she’s neurologically a little different, but she has a whole lot of life to live. And spoiler alert, she doesn’t have rabies.

The Harmony Hill team believes Yellie has some degree of CH (cerebellar hypoplasia) as well as neurological FIP, which she is being treated for. Yellie also has limited vision and uses walls and furniture to guide herself around. She may not see you until you’re right in front of her, but then she’s SO happy to see you. Well, if you’re Kristin.

We’re incredibly grateful to Kristin for making space when our medical foster homes are stretched thin. We’re pretty sure she and Jessie aren’t complaining about this silly girl. Who wouldn’t want a wobbly, mostly blind snuggle monster screaming for more food and hugs? Yellie also has a very important sidekick, her favorite “baby,” Frank the hedgehog, who stays with her at all times.

Cats like Yellie are why we keep following that little voice that says, “You can help them.” But saying yes is only the beginning. They need medical care when funds are running low, foster homes willing to make space for specific needs, and eventually, adopters who will love them for exactly who they are.

We hope more people will open their hearts and homes to differently abled cats like Yellow Brick Road so we can keep making more happily ever afters possible. 💛 by @tailshigh

The first day of Fall calls for everything cozy. Our girl, Reverie, is here to get you ready for the season with her freshly baked air biscuits 🍂🍞. They are quite literally the cutest thing we’ve ever seen and sure to chase away the gloomy feels on a rainy day like today.

Reverie is a perfect petite girl that is so easy to FALL in love with. At an estimated 2 years old, she’s got a playful spark to keep you smiling but she also knows when it’s time to settle in for couch time with a good book or new show to binge.

Reverie, like her namesake, has been dreaming big about a future with a family to adore her. She came from a very tough start but hasn’t let it dim her shine as she quite literally seems to be dancing through life with her constant happy kneading that sometimes look like she’s trying to do the moonwalk. She gets along very well with other kitties, would likely be just fine with cat friendly dogs, and is one of the most chill girls we’ve ever met.

If you’re in need of a huge dose of warm and fuzzies, submitting an adoption application for Reverie seems like the perfect move. And if you’re local to Northern Virginia, go visit her at Pet Supplies Plus in Franconia, VA where she’s hanging out with our friends for a few days to hopefully meet a forever family! by @tailshigh

Meridian Update: Today didn’t go as planned for our sweet boy, but that’s okay, because he’s home, safe and sound, while we get him exactly what he needs.

Meridian was scheduled for his much-needed dental surgery, but his pre-surgical bloodwork showed an abnormal proBNP, raising concern about whether it was safe for him to undergo anesthesia without further diagnostics. His dental was postponed, and he’ll see cardiology next week for a consult and echocardiogram before we move forward.

After losing Afterglow so suddenly under routine anesthesia, we are being extremely cautious with every kitty from this property. We won’t take unnecessary chances with Meridian, even though this adds another unexpected $1,000 to his care.

We’ve raised just over $500 toward Meridian’s now-growing medical expenses, which will include cardiology, his echocardiogram, and the dental surgery he still desperately needs to remove his painful broken teeth. We’re so grateful for every donation helping us get him there.

For now, Meridian is back home settling in after his long morning and false start at the vet, getting plenty of love from foster mama @katesfosters . And Kate deserves some love too after an incredible weekend coordinating a massive undertaking, trapping with @dctnrvolunteers to help DC’s community cats get the spay/neuter care they need.

Hopefully Meridian returns the favor tonight with his specialty, a very good cuddle and an even better snooze. 🤎 by @tailshigh
