Total hip replacement candidate. Severe subluxation, DJD (degenerative joint disease), & severe bilateral hip dysplasia. The words that no pet parent wants to hear. 😩

If you guys saw, last week, Bentley wasn’t putting weight on his left hind leg, & I took him to the vet to get x-rays. I was scared of a possible cruciate tear because the way he fell off the couch was scary and seemed like he had possibly splayed out to the side. Thankfully, the report came back to say that there was no joint effusion to indicate a cruciate tear. The doctor we saw said that still doesn’t rule out a possible partial tear or even just a sprain. 🤞🏽

Over the last week, I’ve been giving him pain meds, keeping his activity low, & carrying my boy up and down the stairs with the pleasant success of him being able to put weight on his leg again.

However, the report did come back to also say that he has severe bilateral hip dysplasia and would be a candidate to get a total hip replacement for one or both hips. 🥺

Now if you are close to me or have talked to me, you may have known that he has CHD. Bent had been diagnosed with it as a 9 month old puppy- & at that time, it was only mild/moderate in just his right hip. Thank goodness we were insured by Trupanion because he has had 90% coverage for any sort of treatment/meds for it since then. Since then, I’ve also tried to maintain and prevent worsening of his hip dysplasia with Adequan shots, salmon oil, green lipid mussel supplements, Dasuquin, & Rejensa, so to find out how bad it’s gotten and that it’s now both hips is a total downer…but I do have to remind myself that sometimes you can’t escape genetics 🥲.

With that being said, now the looming question that I have is, should we do the THR (Total Hip Replacement) surgery for both of his hips? I’m leaning towards yes, considering he’s still “younger” (turning 8 next month), or I guess a “younger senior” 😭, his insurance covers it, & he’s in pretty good health otherwise… Has anyone in our IG Family done something like this with their pup? I know I haven’t been too active, but here are snippets from the last few months. I know that I always say that I’m going to try to share our memories on a normal basis, so hopefully this kick starts it again! I miss connecting with you all 🙏🏽💛. I’m hoping that I’ll find my routine again soon.

Hey IG fam! This is a picture from back in 2020 that I never got to post. Ranger didn’t have as much as a sugar face as he does now. 🥺

Hope you guys have all been doing well and thriving! Last month was a special month that was brought up throughout the social media platforms- AAPI month and Mental Health Awareness month. These are topics that I am both passionate about because I am part of the AAPI community and am also passionate about mental health. I’m still learning about how to take care of my own mental health, but man it’s hard.

One of my goals that I have for myself at the moment is to do the things that make me happy again… I think I tend to lean towards sadness and becoming “stuck” in it, but I realized I have also lost touch with a lotttt of the things that ground me/bring me joy. I let the busyness of life takeover, have been semi-self-isolating, & I’m starting to burn out again. 🥺

One of those things is just spending more time with the boys/loved ones, taking/editing pictures, sharing experiences, and documenting my pups’ lives. So, here I am on my 436765th attempt at being active on here again haha 😅. Photography, animals, and connecting with others are the roots of making a self-care routine for myself, so…hey, at least I’m trying to set it into motion by doing just this post! So cheers to trying to go back to the things we love, and I hope you guys are doing so as well! 🙏🏽

The boys are used to me taking photos of them ever since they were puppies so you can probably imagine alllll the sounds I have come up with for them to look at me.. 😅🤣.

Whew, had a super long and busy weekend! Also, I can’t believe it’s already December- like what- where did November even go? Sometimes being so busy puts me in a robotic mode where I just go into auto-pilot and forget where the time goes. Just noticing 2022 is almost past is just wild to me. I guess I just have to remind myself to slow down when I can and appreciate all the little moments. Even the funky moments- aka the holidays for me.

I always have mixed feelings at this time of year, but this time, I think I want to embrace enjoying the holidays. The other day I was at a Vons, & hearing the first Christmas song I’ve heard this year made me tear up. Like WHAT- whyy 🤣 why am I like this. Just kidding- I think it’s because this time of year is just sensitive..plus a few other things. Also I’ve been missing having quality time with people near and dear to me…& well, the holidays are all about doing that with the ones you love.
It’s about coming together..whether it’s with the family you were born with (if you’re lucky to have a healthy family to be around) or the family you make with the community you create around you.

My love language definitely is quality time so maybe it just means that that is a need that I need to pay attention to and make extra effort for.

I feel like I’ve let the last few months slip my fingers & that I’ve been disconnected from everything, but also….life. Also- my energy tank has been so low lately, so how do we find the balance in it all? Ah whelp, isn’t that one of life’s greatest mysteries anyways?

I guess I’ll make it an extra effort to find the opportunities to do so, make the best of it, and to just enjoy every day as it’s own while also living in the present. Oof whelp, here we go getting back into the social media game! A lot of life changes have happened, & a lot of new chapters have finally begun. The new job that I’m working is partially inspiring me to get back into photography and editing. A lot of our new friends are from this new job, so it’s cool to see you guys on here! 👋🏽

Photography was always a hobby of mine. It was my version of creating art while capturing memories which I try not to take for granted. Life is too short, so let’s capture it as much as we can. 🙏🏽

Hi guys! I know it’s been awhile, & I don’t know if we’ll be coming back consistently because every time I say we are..it just doesn’t happen haha. 🤣 Mental Health is a real & rough struggle..

Anyways, I know IG has been turning into a #ReelHub, so that’s something challenging to try! But here is my attempt of reliving some memories. ☺️

I know it was #NationalDogDay YESTERDAY, but we all know that we celebrate them every single day. So…here are the pups in my life that I am celebrating/forever thankful for. & yes, I owe it all to my first dog I ever had & grew up with. Her IG is @trixiesgoldenyears which is what inspired me to make Bentley & Ranger’s. I wanted a place where I can unapologetically post & document their lives as much as I want to & at the same time, connect with others who think the same.

Trixie will forever be my soul dog- the one who started it all. She really was there through the worst and the best of me. She grew up with me. I got her when I was 10 as a surprise birthday gift because I had been asking for a dog foreverrrr, & she stayed with me for 14 amazing years. She was my solid constant for 14 years of so many life changes/phases/uncertainties. I don’t have any siblings, so she was one of the beings that I leaned on for unconditional love, companionship, & support. I don’t know what I would have done without her.

So here is my tribute to her and the boys. ❤️ & yes, when I first heard this audio, & half of the time I was making this reel- I definitely had tears that wouldn’t go away.. ahhh. Golden hour with my golden boy. 🌾

We moved last December from this area. It’s crazy to think it’s almost been a year.

This was a random field that was next to us that became one of our “secret spots” I can escape to and just let the boys roam free. When the grass grew & the flowers bloomed, it was absolutely beautiful. Oh man, & golden hour was my favorite time..actually, it probably will always be my favorite time of the day. Something about the change of day to night with the spectacle of warm colors that encapsulates the whole sky and whatever the sunlight touches on the earth. Then the peace of the night comes in. It’s just so beautiful. 🥺 I know sunrises do the same, but they’re both different. What do you guys prefer? Sunsets or sunrises? 🌄 🌅?

Hello IG Fam! 👋🏽💕

I hope you all have been well. It’s holiday season which I know can give such an array of different emotions. Please, be easy on yourself. These last few months/year and a half has been surreal and so strange in so many ways. All the things from the dark that have come to the light, the hard conversations we’ve had with friends and family, the realization of each other’s beliefs and opinions, & lots of self-discovery. What a whirlwind, right? Well, I know we have begun getting used to our “new normal”, but I know there are some of us that are still lost in the haze..or got swept back into it especially during the holidays..including me.

So just sending out a gentle reminder to give yourself a break and that it’s ok to “freeze for a bit” while everyone else seems to have found “their groove.”

Anyways, too many reminders that life is too short to not share and document my boys 🐕🐶. Sharing this pic because I looove walking Bent & Ranger down to @littleitalysd . It’s absolutely beautiful, dog friendly, & they have so many great food options! Including our favorite ice cream @saltandstraw (swipe right to see what Ranger thinks of it! 😉😋). Also I have been reminded that I also have tooooo many photos of them to just not post hehe 😝.

Swipe to see the face of a pup who realized he’s both older and that the all the treats in the jar are completely out..

Happy 5th (Belated) Birthday my little weirdo Ranger Boy (07/26) 😍🎂🎉🎁🎈🎊🙌🏽.

If there is one (two) thing(s) I knew was meant to be, I know it was Bentley and Ranger. Funny thing is that Ranger was actually a dog-sitting client of mine before I got him. I even remember telling his first owner after the first few times of watching him, “I know this may never happen, but just in case for whatever reason you can’t keep him anymore, I’ll take him!”

Haha a year and a half later, they got into a very tough situation where they were unable to keep him anymore and asked me if I could help them find him a home- well, let’s just stay I definitely reminded them that I stayed true to what I first told them. I knew he was going to be my boy. 🥺❤️🙏🏽

So anyways, that’s the story of how Ranger became part of my family. I’m so thankful for him & the way he’s chiseled a permanent spot in my heart. ❤️🙏🏽 we’ll celebrate you more, my boy!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you mamas out there! 🥰🙏🏽💕 #HumanReveal 🙈

I don’t have any human children of my own yet, so I’m thankful for these boys to be my babies of my own right now.

To all the human moms, fur moms, moms who have lost their littles, to those who have lost their moms, to those who have a strained or distant relationship with their moms or daughters, those who have been trying to be moms, & more. 🙏🏽❤️

These type of “parent holidays” have been bittersweet for me.. I never talk about it, but lately I’ve been getting an urge to talk about it.. Partially because I think this last year has forced me to look more introspectively at myself.. I lost my mom 9 years ago, & semi-recently has it been slightly easier to talk more and more about her. Grief has been a big part of my life..in my early young adult life until now. & I know it’s taboo to talk about, but it really shouldn’t.

I felt so alone in my grief journey that it caused me to shy away from people. And it made me feel like I couldn’t connect with anyone to the point where I felt like no one could understand me & that I always had to pretend to be happy since I was always known as the sweet & happy Kat growing up.

It’s still a work in progress, but I’m getting there with the help of supportive friends & me trying to take these kinds of steps to reach out and connect more..to be more real and true to myself.

So if there is anyone else out there who has these bittersweet thoughts or struggles, feel free to reach out. 🙏🏽💕

Anyways, all my love out to you lovely dog-parents. I hope you all had a beautiful Sunday nonetheless 🐾☀️.
