Janice🐾
1 year old Shepherd Mix and already suffering from the stressful shelter environment after 1 week.
Janice found herself on @animals_clt urgent euthanization list for 7pm tonight 7/6💔she could really use a foster or a rescue to snag her and give her an actual chance at being the best girl🫶🏼

What I learned about smart Janice from my brief interaction with her behind shelter bars. She has not even made it to the "dogs who are walkable for volunteers" list before her deadline:

🐾Catches treats from the air👋🏻
🐾Sits on command🪑
🐾Lays down on command👇🏼
🐾Learned to check under her belly for rolled treats that she missed before the jext treat was rolled👀
🐾Stops manic barking at you when you stop walking by to give her a task or a command💕

Janice seems like a fun and smart girl who will thrive with daily tasks, puzzles, and structured attention to figure out how to be the best girl and companion possible🥰

Freya is dog-friendly (slow intros), rides great in the car, walks beautifully on leash, takes treats gently, and loves making her people happy.

Volunteering doesnt always look like shelter walks. I had the opportunity to transport a female husky, her 7 puppies- who were born in the shelter- and a male shitzu mix to @newbeginningsshepherdrescue this morning🫶🏼 no one made a peep for the 1hr drive- they were so grateful for the quiet drive compared to all of the shelter noises, even the puppies slept the whole way🐾

Volunteering is a great way to give back when you have the time to do it❤️

Bach is a handsome 1-year-old neutered male who is a striking black and tan German Shepherd Dog / Siberian Husky mix, weighing in at a perfect 32 pounds — the ideal “take-me-anywhere” size. This ones an emotional one🎀
My sweet Edgar, with the largest fan base cheering you on for success❤️

I immediately fell in love with his large ears, huge paws, and beautiful eyes when i first walked him at the shelter. When I first pulled Edgar to foster he was so shut down and overstimulated. He was skittish and flinched when touched. He had no idea what a loving touch meant vs an unkind touch- all touches were overstimulating. It took me a solid 45 minutes to even get him into my 4runner to leave the shelter behind- he was nervous, scared, shell shocked, and overstimulated. His ears were starting to form scabs from where he had been left outside for so long before landing in the shelter at just 1yo. He was in such a flight mode that he couldn't be trusted inside of a fenced yard without a leash on. His coat was thin and unhealthy and he weighed a whopping 67lbs of pure skin and bones 😥 So we moved slow and calmly around him. He barked nonstop in his kennel for the first week, but with a routine and consistent feedings he slowly started to trust Blair and I. He could see us love our own dogs from a distance and slowly started trusting people again. He responds so well to love that i could see his confidence start to bloom. Through a failed adoption, where he flourished in a lot of areas, and back to us as a foster- hes finally found his forever home in Charlotte with a young and committed couple who has the most patience for him to continue to grow🫶🏼 He loves food/treats, learned how to sit, lay down, and shake with his paw, and most importantly he loves flipping over on his back- belly up- and being his big ole goofy self with his new family! Im going to miss those large nose boops to my face out of pure love from you & your big ole hugs where you let me hold you and help mend your past scars💕

‼️Missing male German Shepherd, in West Charlotte NC‼️

This male Shepherd, named Ritchie, got out yesterday evening. Owner is located on Centergrove Lane which is near the airport but of course he could be anywhere at this point. He ran into the woods and they are worried he could be hurt. Please keep your eyes peeled as you drive in that area. He is chipped but is not wearing a collar.

Health check to get this handsome boy back into Charlotte Animal Care & Controls system so he can be up for adoption again.

🌟 Fostering is all about the ups and downs. I wont let the downs of his failed adoption foreshadow his potential in finding his forever home🫶🏼 we are in this together, Edgar💙 your forever family is out there and we are going to find them🐾 after a stressful morning at the shelter, we finished the afternoon with a bath (which he did phenomenally) for new beginnings and now he will rest from this overwhelming day in the comfort of his den (covered crate) to decompress💕 @animals_clt
