THE SPELL/THE DREAM is now live tune in/come see (link in bio) I had often wondered what I would do if given the opportunity to create something very much in the public sphere. I have tried to make a work that can speak to different audiences in different ways. I hope that this uncanny blue giant will enchant kids in the way I was enchanted by fairytales, and later on by art. They are a dreamer under a spell, perhaps a curse, they are from elsewhere and in their dreams are elsewhere now too, an arrival under suspended animation. This sculpture is a body dreaming under the spell and the radio is their dream. The dream radio is a 24hr transmission for the next 6 weeks, bringing together 80 artists, musicians, thinkers, writers as well as hours of archival materials, other radio stations and archives to create a terminal dream. This project belongs to everyone :) and I hope that one of its legacies is that public art can be many things and can be odd and uncompromised, and engaging and unexpected. @maxwellsterling you have given them the kiss of life with this unbelievably stunning soundtrack - I am forever haunted. I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart all the incredible people that have made it come to its strange and beautiful life. @marie_mcpartlin @somersethousestudios @somersethouse for asking me to dare to dream! This is a dream come true 😭 I lived in NYC in the 90s and never in my wildest desires did I imagine I’d make giant candles that would illuminate the city sky ♥️ thank you so much @ceciliaalemani and the whole team for this incredible invitation to grace @highlinenyc The Sun Is a Flame That Haunts The Night April 2025 - March 2026 LOCATION On the High Line between 28th and 30th Streets 📸 @timothyschenck For the High Line, Shani presents The Sun Is a Flame That Haunts The Night, a series of three candlesticks, a recurring motif in her work. Each almost cartoon-like candlestick is rendered here in urethane resin with a glass flame that glows at night. For Shani, whose work often explores themes of spirituality, mortality, and mythology, the candle holds many meanings. It can represent a vigil or memorial, while also symbolizing hope and healing. Candlesticks such as those depicted in The Sun Is a Flame That Haunts The Night also have links to manifestation, the occult, and witchcraft, all of which have become often closely associated with fourth-wave feminism—subjects that permeate the artist’s practice. Though melting candles often represent the passage of time, The Sun Is a Flame That Haunts The Night stays forever lit, paused on the High Line—a respite where one loses sense of time and space. taken in The High Line by @taishani

A sneak peak of what's to come... Jupiter Artland will present M.I.A.S.M.A. a major exhibition by Turner Prize-winning artist @taishani from the end of October. M.I.A.S.M.A. (Moral Injury in the Apocalyptic Sunsets of Modernity disAssociation) reimagines the Ancient Greek tragedy Antigone for the present moment, asking who is mourned, whose deaths are made invisible, and what forms of love and resistance remain possible in an age of political, ecological and moral crisis. The collaborative commission follows Jupiter’s presentation of Shani’s The Spell or The Dream which will still be at Jupiter to visit. M.I.A.S.M.A. brings Shani’s feminist counter-mythologies into Jupiter’s gallery, combining sculpture, image, sound and architecture in an immersive world of grief, rebellion and transformation. #jupiterartland #taishani taken in Jupiter Artland by @taishani

A mutli-camera, multi-screen set-up feeds this spectacular one-off collaboration between Somerset House Studios artist @taishani and choreographer @hollytblakey, featuring performers: Thalissa Teixeira, Tallulah Haddon and Molly Moody. Last night @mikalapizza gave me this insanely beautiful gift she commissioned from @laura_makes_miniatures for my 50th. Now available - two beautiful prints of Ariela Widzer’s (my sweet aunt ❤️) paintings! When my beloved, whole world, mum passed away 18 months ago, Ariela, who had been living with her, came to live with us here in London. She is an extraordinary artist, she paints every day, comes to the studio with me, and in many ways, my whole possibility of being an artist is indebted to her. M.I.A.S.M.A. @busanbiennale Hegel called Antigone “the heavenly Antigone, the most magnificent figure ever to have appeared on earth” I also think so. Here she appears as a temporal Frankenstein’s monster, as a wall, assembled from the charnel house, each window a different voice, a recall, singing @agaujma beautiful score. This passage was written for the heroic hunger strikers ♥️ ‘All the monster wants is to be real. To love light, to be a carrier of the sun’s heat. To be loved. To be mourned. To know affection. He yearns for a single being who will look upon him not with indifference, but with loving recognition – another consciousness for whom he would be real enough, miraculous, for whom he would be “my love”, “my eyes”, “my soul”. His life sacred; the matrix within which life becomes one of relation, not isolated cosmic loneliness. Thank you @amalandaplan & @evelyn_simons for including me in your vision ♥️ by @taishani
