Issey Miyake x Naoki Takizawa A/W 2002 Deconstructed Origami Jacket

Debuting on the Issey Miyake Autumn/Winter 2002 runway, this jacket by Naoki Takizawa exemplifies experimental construction at its finest. Composed of layered fragments and narrow strips of fabric, it’s been meticulously pieced together to follow the body’s natural lines with a sculptural, almost second-skin fit. Open spaces are deliberately integrated into the design, creating a sense of movement and flexibility that contrasts its intricate structure. With time, the piece has developed a beautiful patina—its softly frayed edges adding depth and reinforcing its deconstructed character.

Size: 3
Condition: 9.5/10
(PRESOLD)

*Please note that this item is Pre-Owned, Legally Sourced, and 100% Authentic*

Issey Miyake was a visionary force in fashion who approached clothing as both design and engineering, merging traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge innovation. Emerging from postwar Japan and establishing his studio in Paris in the 1970s, he rejected rigid Western tailoring in favor of garments that responded organically to the human body. His work is defined by radical textile experimentation—from heat-set pleating that permanently transforms fabric into dynamic, sculptural forms, to the development of A-POC (A Piece of Cloth), where entire garments are created from a single continuous thread. Rather than designing for trends, Miyake pursued universality, creating pieces that prioritize movement, adaptability, and longevity, positioning his work somewhere between fashion, architecture, and industrial design.
