Great practice swing. Lovely outfit. Ball in the bunker.
Golf has a way of interrupting the round you had in mind.
Next time it does, breathe out. Drop your shoulders. Remind yourself: "One bad shot. I'm still here to enjoy the round."
Some days, a little humour is the reset you need.
What would you remove from golf to instantly improve your score?

The putt was short. The conversation in your head isn’t.

“I should have made that.”
“Why do I always do this?”

Before you leave the green, try this:

Loosen your grip. Breathe out slowly. Give yourself one instruction: “Next shot.”

You can be disappointed and still move on.

Some rounds give you a score to remember. Others, a score to forget.
But there’s also the walk. The company. That one shot you’d love to hit again.
When you look back on today’s round, what will you keep?
Two of these every week. Follow along if they’re your kind of thing.

You waited all week for this. One shot in, you're on your knees in the grass.

Tell me your first hole doesn't start this way too.

One ball in the water. Two short putts missed. And suddenly, “I’m playing badly today” becomes “I’m terrible at this.”

We all know how quickly that happens. But one round doesn’t erase the shots you’ve learned to hit. Or the time you’ve put in. You bring all of that with you to the next tee—even on the difficult days.

So before your next shot, ask yourself: What kind of golfer do I want to be right now? Someone who takes a breath. Chooses a target. Gives this shot their full attention.

You can practice being that golfer whatever number goes on the card.

How you play is how you live.

What do you say to yourself when a round starts going wrong?

“Don’t go in the water.”
It’s easy to stand over the ball thinking about everything you want to avoid.
That’s why this is one of my favourite cards:
“I focus on what I want to happen, not what I’m avoiding.”
Before a round, I choose a card that fits what I need that day, take it off the ring and keep it in my pocket.
When I feel myself losing focus, reaching for it is my physical reminder to pause. I read the words, bring my attention back to where I want the ball to go, and put the card away before playing.
I created Mental Mulligan for moments like this. Eighteen focus cards to help you return your attention to the next shot.
What thought tends to take over when you’re standing over the ball?

Ask a golfer about their last round and they’ll usually start with the mistakes.
The drive that found the trees.
The short putt they missed.
The hole they completely lost.
The good shots disappear much faster.
Not because they mattered less — but because we rarely stop long enough to keep them.
Confidence isn’t pretending the bad shots didn’t happen.
It’s refusing to let them become the whole story.
Before your next round, remember three shots worth keeping.
What’s one good shot from your last round that deserves another replay?

We’ve all stood outside that window, thinking the missing piece is on a shelf in there.
Sometimes it is. Good equipment helps.
But the shot that’s costing you is the one you’re still replaying from three holes ago.
That part is yours.

Golf has a way of ruining the round you planned.
The score you expected.
The swing you thought you'd have.
The putts you should have made.

Expectations keep you comparing this round to the one in your head.
Appreciation brings you back to the one you're actually playing.

The next shot. The walk. The course. The fact that you're here.

Trade your expectations for appreciation.
Then play the shot in front of you.

What do you appreciate most about your game — when you stop looking at the score?

A golfer put me onto Walter Hagen this week. He expected to make at least seven bad shots a round. So when he hit a bad one, he didn't worry about it. It was just one of the seven.

He had it worked out long before anyone called it sports psychology.

The bad shot isn't the problem. Expecting none is.

You walk onto the first tee quietly believing today is the clean one. So the first miss doesn't cost you a stroke — it costs you the story you'd already written. And you spend the next three holes trying to get the story back instead of playing the hole in front of you.

Seven in. Already counted. Nothing to carry.

How many bad shots do you allow yourself before the round turns?

The wise next shot. Not the hero shot.

A golfer wrote that to me - twenty years of playing, and that's what he says changed his game.

You know the pull. You've put one in the trees, and something in you wants to make it all back in a single swing. Erase it. Prove it didn't happen.

That swing costs more than the miss ever did.

The wise shot is smaller. It's less satisfying. It's the one that saves the round.

And it takes twenty years to learn because it asks you to accept what already happened before you choose what comes next.

That's not golf. That's most of life.

Where are you still trying to play the hero shot?
