A large vase made of black persimmon wood, measuring approximately 17 cm in diameter and 27 cm in height.
It features black and brown patterns that ripple outward like waves, along with a hollow in the wood that offers a glimpse of the space beyond.
When long branches are arranged in the vase, their tips peek out through the opening.

A lidded vessel crafted from Claro walnut.
Claro walnut is created by grafting European walnut onto American walnut in an attempt to produce high-quality nuts;
the resulting rejection reaction between the two varieties gives rise to a unique and beautiful grain pattern.
(Incidentally, the nuts produced were apparently unsuitable for eating.)
One cannot help but sense something of human greed or karma in this process,
yet it is deeply ironic that we reap the benefits—delicious vegetables and fruits, beautiful flowers, and exquisite wood grain—born from that very act.
Since I frequently work with such distinctive wood, I strive to create pieces that preserve its unique character as much as possible.
This Claro walnut lidded vessel will be featured in the exhibition at Style Hug Gallery, starting Saturday, October 3rd. taken in Style Hug Gallery by @takehitoichikawa

A lidded vessel crafted from Pale Moon Ebony.
I had long known of this wood, but because it is such a premium material, I rarely had the chance to work with it; however, after encountering a fine piece of timber, I was finally able to try shaping it.
It resembles *kurogaki* (black persimmon) but is harder, and it releases a chocolate-like aroma when cut.
It features a beautiful pattern reminiscent of flowing water; this piece will be shown at my next exhibition. by @takehitoichikawa

A tall vase carved from a piece of *kurogaki* (black persimmon) wood, striking for its areas of natural decay (the second photo shows the raw timber).
I feel I was able to carve it in a way that preserves the history and atmosphere the wood has accumulated over time.
This piece has now made its way to Singapore ✈︎ by @takehitoichikawa

The joint exhibition with *coeur ya.* currently being held at SPICA has just three days left, including today, Friday, September 11th.
Although I previously mentioned I would share details after the event concluded, the end is drawing near, so I would like to introduce all the collaborative pieces created with *coeur ya.* now.
There are nine collaborative pieces in total.
The wood species used are (in the order shown in the first photo): Black Persimmon, Japanese Oak (burl section), Wenge, Bubinga, Oak, Ziricote, Black Persimmon, Black Persimmon, and Yakusugi Cedar.
They have turned out with such unique character that I find myself wanting to keep them for my own collection.
If you have the time, please do come and see them during these final three days. taken in SPICA by @takehitoichikawa

A large vase carved from Yakusugi cedar; the first photo shows a comparison with the standard size I usually make (5–6 cm in diameter).
This striking piece features a wide, gaping split reminiscent of a cave, a shimmering wood grain, and distinctive figured patterns scattered throughout.
Another thing worth noting is the wonderful fragrance of the Yakusugi cedar—something that unfortunately doesn't come across in photos.
It is currently on display at the joint exhibition by @coeurya and myself at @spica_beppu .
Please note that SPICA is closed tomorrow, Wednesday, September 9th; the exhibition runs until Sunday, September 13th.
Thank you for your continued support. taken in SPICA by @takehitoichikawa
