REVIEW:
Going into this VelociPastor double feature event in with an open mind and no expectations, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed both films. The campy atmosphere, over the top moments, and well timed humor made for an entertaining experience, and I found myself laughing far more than I anticipated. Gregory James Cohan delivered a performance that struck the perfect balance between cheesy and charming, fitting seamlessly into the films’ unique style. The intentional temporary fonts that popped in and out throughout the film in what seemingly meant to be more serious events, was the icing on the cake. Who doesn’t love a disaster with small humor relief?

“If everybody was dancing, we’d have a happier planet.”

Thank you Take One Press @takeonepress for this beautiful conversation about Rhythm or Smooth, dance, filmmaking, collaboration, New York, and why I wanted to make a film rooted in connection and joy.

Coming out of the isolation of the pandemic, I wanted to create something that brought people together, across generations, cultures and experiences, and celebrated the simple pleasure of being in a room together, moving, laughing and dancing.

Rhythm or Smooth is heading into its next chapter, and I’m so excited to begin sharing more.

When we look at artists who have grown up on our television screens, we often expect a straight line. We want them to pick a lane; Acting, singing, writing, or directing and stay in it. But for multi-hyphenate artist Maiara Walsh, the roadblocks of her career became the very tools she needed to build a much bigger, more expansive creative life.
