Hey there! I’ve noticed a lot of new faces around here, so I figured it’s time to reintroduce myself!

I’m Andrea — a flight attendant ✈️ who always has a crochet project tucked in her bag. My mom taught me how to crochet when I was a teenager, but for the longest time I only ever made scarves and baby blankets here and there .

That all changed last December when a sweet passenger on one of my flights crocheted tiny purses for me and another flight attendant (swipe to see the one she made me — still obsessed!) 💕 It was such a thoughtful moment and sparked something in me. I started browsing patterns and found one by @bygalk that I instantly fell in love with. I made my first bag… then another… then posted it on Instagram, and suddenly everyone was asking where it was from!

With some encouragement from my friends and family, I decided to start selling them — and that’s how Taking Off With Threads was born 🧵✨

So happy you’re here! Can’t wait to keep sharing this journey (and cute bags) with you all.

7 years ago today, I became a flight attendant✈️

A little throwback to where it all started. These videos are from my first two years of flying… back when I was just figuring it all out and getting to live the life I had wanted for so long.

It took me a little longer than I thought it would to become a flight attendant, and then a little longer to get to where I really wanted to be. But looking back, I wouldn’t change the journey.

Seven years later, this career has taken me to so many places, given me so many unforgettable memories, and brought so many unexpected chapters into my life.

It’s kind of crazy looking back at this version of me and knowing everything that was still ahead of her🤍

7 years of doing what I always dreamed of doing. And I’m still so grateful I get to call this my job✈️

One of my favorite things about crocheting is that I can take it with me wherever I go🧶✈️

Bringing a project with me to work has become one of my favorite parts of being a flight attendant. There’s always a little bit of downtime somewhere.. sitting at the airport, waiting on a van, relaxing at the hotel, or just having a few quiet minutes between everything and I love having something to reach for during those moments.

I think one of the things I love most is that it gives me a reason to put my phone down. It’s so easy to spend every spare minute scrolling, and while I obviously love sharing my crochet and creating content here, I also really enjoy having something that lets me disconnect for a little while.

There’s something really nice about sitting somewhere unfamiliar, pulling out my yarn, and just working on something with my hands. No notifications, no scrolling, no feeling like I need to be doing anything else. Just a little time to myself and whatever happens to be on my hook.

Crocheting has become my favorite way to make use of all those little areas of downtime that come with this job. And I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of packing a project in my bag and taking it along for the ride🤍
