A bit of excitement going around with the possibility of a rule change that impacts sumo deadlifts. Easy fix is switching to conventional deadlifts 😅
But in all seriousness, anyone with a good foundation in the compound lift’s shouldn’t be worried, rules and standards can change just like they changed for benchpress. And if you learnt to sumo before you can conventional, shame on you 😂
You can choose to rise to the challenge and compete or whatever the other options might be. Strong is strong! The cream always rises to the top… on another note; fun is fun, pick your flavour n enjoy.
I’m sure there’s enough weights for everyone 😂
I pressed out the wrinkles from my conventionals finishing with some 5s at 240 kgs, 8 sets all up… definitely a shock to the system. I haven’t had this many working sets on deadlifts, even for sumo in ages…

Taktful lifting TPS is back deciding to touch on something less flashy but essential especially when it comes to performance; Integrity. Simply put - Having integrity is being what you say you are. Playing the part we cast for ourself coz when it comes down to it, that’s what makes our thoughts a reality.
Think the goal!!! Puts it in focus and drive for WHY…
Speaking it with conviction confirms until you believe it…
Acting it out- This is the part where you’re making regular deposits into the hustle- sure it’s never a guarantee but put enough down and it will pay
Failing to follow through is a recipe for empty words.
Many ways to do it, but what they all have in common is being about IT! Whatever IT is for you 🫡

Client highlight- Tyler aka @dude.with.the.mo showed out last year… despite a patchy lead up with training in lockdowns while living in Melbourne and Adelaide and some annoying niggles… He WALKED the WALK and is soon to be announced South Australia’s first APU National medal 🥈 after smashing it at the 2021 National Collate as a u74kg junior. With a total of 600 kgs he closed he has top 3 totals in u74jr within such a short time, can’t wait to see what’s next for him #Repost @dude.with.the.mo with @make_repost

TLDR: Last weekend I competed in the APU National Collate as a 74kg JR and I scraped together a 600kg total

Still waiting on results for the outcome of the comp

S: 212.5
B: 130
D: 257.5

Long time no see,

This prep for comp was one of the hardest I’ve done, I was constantly battling my own judgment of my lifts and balancing all the other stresses of life. I can’t thank @kvdub27 enough for how much he helped me in and out of the gym to make sure I did what I had to that day.

I started this year with a total of 530kg and a goal to make it to nationals and hopefully even further.

Not too long ago my pop passed away and was and still is extremely difficult for me at times to process as we were very close. when I was telling him about my competition he said that he would be there for the day I make it to nationals.

257.5 was the magic number I needed to hit to get spot on 600, I failed my attempt at 250 and decided to just go for the 257.5 anyways. As you can see in the video I was quite pumped up and I believe it was pop doing his duty on the day for me like he said he would.

Now it’s time to get myself an AUS singlet

A question I get asked quite often is; “how long have you been training”.
It’s always quite unnerving because what most mean by this is how long will it take for them to reach similar levels of strength and if I’m to speak candidly I’d ask why it matters…
When I started out on this strength training journey I started out with a bunch friends… most who lifted more than me,years down the track and well sure I’m lifting more.
This is not to say that everyone who’s consistent will continue getting stronger but more to say the people that get stronger or keep growing are the from the group who who don’t stop turning up.
To go further….Progress is never guaranteed even to the 1s turning up so whenever you turn up make sure each session counts and enjoy the journey of the process.

Meet Bayden, 1 of our lifters who competed in the @apu_sa_powerlifting sanctioned local comp at Strengthlab HQ.
This was Bayden’s first PL comp and he did extremely well. we’ve been working on building strength and technique. Started 6 months ago with
110 kgs Squat
90 kg bench
120 kg deadlift
On his debut he’s come away with
160 kg squat +50kg PB
117.5 kg bench +27.5 kg PB with more in the tank
240 kg deadlift +120 kg PB
All this with more room to grow.
If you’re keen to give powerlifting a go and would like some coaching send me a message. I have opened up 5 spots for new clients.

Squats -
My go to checklist :
I’ve had the luxury of changing up my setup a number of times due to a number of things like transition to low bar from high bar and vice-versa or limited mobility or even change in equipment ie combo rack vs cage ….during training blocks and the goal is always to have an efficient setup that is fit for the job.
🔘Hands
🔘Setting bar shelf/ upper back
🔘Stacking under bar
🔘Bracing
🔘Walkout
🔘Settling the load
🔘Performing squat
🔘Racking weight

🔘Place hands evenly spaced on the bar at a width comfortable for your shoulders that allows you to secure the load on your back.
🔘Get under the bar.
Make sure your mid foot and hips are stacked under the bar and allow your knees to soften as you get into the right position…
🔘Engage your back as you tighten your grip on the bar and activate your core bracing only allowing shallow breaths after this.
Straighten knees and walk back to squat position.
🔘Make sure your feet are rooted and load is spread evenly across the 3points of contact.
🔘Let the bar settle and enhance your core bracing with a big breath and descend into a squat.
🔘Once completed, rack the load.

🔘Control the speed going down and coming up…whilst a speedy squat might spend less time carrying the load, a steady squat tends to be easier to control even at high intensities.
If you have any questions or want some tips on improving your squat send me a message.

Ok been off this page for a bit…thought I’d revamp my posts with a quote I heard a while back… resonates a lot with me and helps me lock in on my goals!!!
Easy to lose focus especially with so many uncertainties around daily routines and competitions etc… but granted we all have our hardships it’s really been a choice to decide which areas in life get the most of my energy…
I can already feel my excitement for the sport reignite and my desire to learn more and empower others as I grow both as a lifter and coach…
Easy to claim others have a better framework or time but that really doesn’t give me any answer to the questions…
So yeah my answer?
“to keep it moving!!!”
Less overthinking and yep goal is now sharing a bunch of drafts soon too 😅. Watch this space 😉

In the gym this can be translated as making the hard yards during off-season.
Peak performance is only as reliable as the baseline allowance

Know your goal!!!
Keep your eyes on the prize. You’ll come across a number or distractions, excuses or resistance... just focus on why you started.

When you’re flying you wanna know the pilot is familiar with aviation. Not just from reading books or attending seminars....
Whilst the knowledge is a valuable and staple tool, experiences mould and build character...
I refer to this notion whenever I’m approaching a coach- they’ve either:
🔘Achieved what I want or have similar goals.
🔘Have an approach that aligns with my ambitions
🔘Can inspire me to see beyond my current level of vision-
🔴They can’t take me where they haven’t been. That’s the reality of it!!!

I’ll be looking to open a few spots for dedicated coaching. Feel free to send me a message if interested. I’m very much still a competing lifter and as such have a cap on numbers.
