Good sales seasons are not only for increasing your spending. They are also an opportunity to strengthen the business. Save intentionally. Build a reserve for slower periods and unexpected expenses. 📍 Be careful with overstocking. Don't tie up your cash in products simply because sales are currently good. Stock based on demand, how quickly your products move and how much cash the business can comfortably commit. 📍 And always leave room for the expenses you didn't plan for. Equipment can break. Today, being the International Day of the Girl Child, I went searching for my childhood pictures because this baby girl had absolutely no idea how far God would bring her. Growing up, I was always allowed to have a voice. My opinions mattered. And now, as an adult, I fully appreciate the kind of home I grew up in. It sharpened me, shaped my thinking, and influenced my journey in ways I continue to discover. My business decisions are better because I had role models at home. I watched my parents navigate business, particularly my mum, and learnt lessons that no classroom could have fully taught me. In fact, my mum’s business was one of the triggers that propelled me into writing my first book, Social Media Mastery: The Comprehensive Guide to Content Creation, Crisis Management and Long-Term Success. My dad, of blessed memory, was also an incredible role model. He worked a 9-to-5 job, but he also invested in himself. I saw him work, grow, and make room for personal development. Those experiences shaped my understanding of work, life, and growth. Today, as a founder myself, I cannot help but appreciate the beautiful triggers, lessons, and experiences that shaped the baby girl I once was and the woman I am becoming. (I'm still a baby girl, shaa o. 😩 Adulthood gat nothing on me!) But on a more serious note, this is why I believe every girl child deserves to be heard, supported, protected, and given the opportunity to become more. Dear business owners, beyond the rhetorics, show up for every little girl in your corner. Teach her that her dreams are valid. Guide her. Protect her. Give her room to learn, make mistakes, develop her voice, and soar. And please, remember to protect and empower the girl child in your business, too: the women who work in your establishment. Create an environment where they can contribute, grow, lead, and thrive. Sometimes, what a girl needs to become the woman she dreams of being is an environment that believes in her before the world does. Let me tell you something I have come to understand about businesses. Sometimes, a business owner comes to me and says, “I need someone to manage my social media.” My first instinct is not always to start talking about content calendars, posting frequency or how many videos we can create in a month. Sometimes, I want to understand the business first. What exactly are you trying to achieve? Who are you trying to reach? What do you want people to understand about your business? And does your current communication actually reflect the value you offer? Because you can post every single day and still struggle to attract the right customers when your positioning is unclear. You can create beautiful videos and still find it difficult to convert attention into business. And you can spend money on marketing without having a clear understanding of what that marketing is supposed to achieve. This is why, at DT MEDIA CONSULT LTD, our work goes beyond publishing content. We help businesses gain clarity, establish the right structure and build communication strategies that support their growth. Sometimes, that means social media management. You can have 10,000 followers and still be struggling to keep your business alive. I've come to realise that building a successful business is not always about who is making the most noise online. I reiterate this a lot during the Brand Clarity Sessions I have with my clients. Sometimes, it's about the relationships you've built, the people who trust your expertise, the referrals that come when you're not even in the room, and the structures you've quietly put in place. REFERRALS HAS BEEN WHAT MY BUSINESS ENJOYS AND I AM GRATEFUL FOR IT. As business owners, particularly women in business; we already have so much to navigate. The least we can do is stop building businesses that constantly drain us just to impress people who may never become our customers. Not every client is your client. Not every business advice is your strategy. And not evy season requires you to be visible everywhere. Build relationships. Charge your worth. Leverage your network. Create systems. Think long-term. Because the real flex isn't just owning a buss. It's building one that can thrive without consuming your entire life. To every woman building something meaningful, I see you.
