Arte y Pasion is honored to announce their performance and proclamation of “San Antonio Month of Flamenco.” The proclamation ceremony and performance, “Silk Road,” will take place at 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 8 2026, at the Yanaguana Gardens of Hemisfair Park, 434 South Alamo, San Antonio, Texas.

The ceremony and performance is a nod to the weaving of cultures and textures echoed by the Silk Road, whose trade routes connected the East to the West and touched countries such as Spain, India, and Mexico. With the trade of textiles, spices, art, and gold came the trade of cultures, music, language and movement. This coming together of artists for San Antonio Month of Flamenco honors the cultural confluence that came into fruition because of the Silk Road, and the culmination of a full day celebration of flamenco dance and music, themed “The Roads that Lead to Us.”

Flamenco artists have played a distinct role in building San Antonio’s cultural fabric for almost a century, and we are honored to continue to contribute to the artistic infrastructure and trajectory of San Antonio. For the event, please visit https://fb.me/e/4Q75lpdRO. For more information on WeFlamenco Fest, please visit https://www.facebook.com/WeFlamencoFest and http://weflamencofest.org/.  For more information on Arte y Pasion, please visit https://www.arte-y-pasion.com. The ceremony and performance is a WeFlamenco Fest event and is made possible in part by the Texas Commission on the Arts, City of San Antonio, WeFlamenco Fest, Carmens de la Calle, Heritage Festivals of San Antonio, and Hemisfair Park. This event is free to the public.

Arte y Pasión, in conjunction with the Beacon at Midtown Gallery & Studios, is delighted to present WILD LIFE. The one-time performance in San Antonio will take place at 7:30 pm on Thursday November 12 2026 at the Beacon Midtown Theater at 1136 W. Woodlawn Avenue, San Antonio TX 78201.
The program is a series of lush vignettes in traditional and contemporary flamenco, that tells the story of the wisdom of the animal kingdom. We underestimate our animal friends; and because of our ignorance, they possess a freedom that we do not. They live alongside us, but even as their lives are affected by ours, they watch us and judge us.
The company is Tamara Adira, Genevieve Obregon, Jose Manuel Tejeda, and Celia Corrales, with special guest Melissa Cruz. Members of the audience are invited to dress as your favorite animal.  Following the performance, dancers throughout the community are invited to dance with us. There is a bar and a little celebration. Social hour is 7:30 pm, curtain is 8:00 pm.

There are over 40,000 orange trees lining the streets of Sevilla. Sevillanos are so used to oranges, that they just lie in the street. On a hot day, you can smell the scent of orange wafting in the air, setting up the backdrop for all life events. Somehow, the aroma of orange from the leaves and the fruit transforms the atmosphere.

The story of the orange trees of Sevilla originated all the way back with the founder of Sevilla, the legendary Hercules. One of his tasks was to Africa to seek the golden apple of immortality, which is said to have been an orange.

Later on this Naranja Amarga, or bitter orange, was later introduced by sailors from Genoa. These oranges were rumored to bring joy to whomever possessed them. In the 12th century the North African (then called the Moor) Dynasty believed that possessing one or more orange trees would guarantee happiness. So, the Moors then decided to plant these bitter orange trees all over Spain.

Orange trees would begin to play a role in Sevilla’s economy. The Moors used the orange not only to make the city more beautiful, but for medicinal purposes. During the Middle Ages, they used essences from the orange to soothe skin and digestive conditions, relaxing nerves, for helping people sleep, for liquors and marmalades. They used the orange blossoms (azahar, or “orange blossom” in Spanish, from the Arab word the Arabic word zahr, which means flower), extracting their oils and healing essences, making Sevilla a world center of perfume, just like Damascus or Baghdad.  (continued in the comments. The time has come for me to give you a sneak preview of my book MEDITATIONS OF A FLAMENCO STOIC. I write it from the perspective of studying flamenco for over 25 years from two very different worlds.

This book is about doing something lonely for a long time and seeing results in small pockets, eventually in waves. It’s about feeling love in rhythm and colors. It is about your heart beating hard in your chest from adrenaline and feeling like you might die, and then dancing a full dance. It is about the smell of new shoes. It is about repetition and patience, discipline and time. It is about doing the thing that scares you the most and then reaping the rewards. It is about making friends, it is about trauma bonding. It is about respect and admiration and passing on information. It is about getting onstage right before you are ready…knowing you’ll never be ready. It is about learning hard lessons and starting fresh and smarter the next day. It is about learning an intangible art form that can only be passed from person to person.

It is about how your art is Your gift for the world. That finding your own style is the most precious thing you can do… to express, be, distill the essence of who you are. It is about acknowledging the responsibility of what is under your control and surrendering to what is not.

I hope that you can might this book to find your style, and to become more of who you are.

Thanks to my editor Ana Say, I’m almost done. I’ve been writing it for the past decade, so when I say I’m almost done, I mean you’ll probably see it within the year. It’s an oak tree kind of feeling. If you are interested in getting a copy, DM me and you’ll be among the first to know about it when I do release it. taken in Madrid, España by @tamara.adira
