July 11, 2015. Srebrenica.Ten years ago, I stood among thousands at the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Centre. I remember the overwhelming silence that somehow spoke louder than any words ever could. I remember the endless rows of white gravestones, each representing a life stolen, a family shattered, and a future that never had the chance to exist. For me, this was a deeply personal encounter with grief, memory, and history. Standing there, I realized that genocide is not only about the lives that were taken. It is about the generations forever changed, the children who grew up without fathers, the mothers who spent decades searching for the remains of their sons, and the wounds that continue long after the violence ends.Remembering Srebrenica is not about reopening old wounds, it is about preventing new ones. The genocide in Srebrenica has been established by international courts. Yet genocide denial continues to inflict pain on survivors and families. Denial does not erase history; it deepens injustice. It silences truth, dishonors victims, and creates fertile ground for hatred to grow again.Today, I remember the 8,000+ Bosniak men and boys who were murdered simply because of who they were. I remember the mothers who still carry unimaginable grief. And I remember our collective responsibility to protect truth.Memory is an act of justice. Truth is an act of courage. Education is an act of prevention.May we continue to speak their names, preserve their stories, and teach future generations that “Never Again” must be more than words, it must be a commitment.Srebrenica. We remember. We bear witness. We will not forget. 💚#srebrenica #stopgenocide #bosnianwar #8372 #july11 by @tamara_ukwu_

Yesterday, I visited the Sarajevo Tunnel Museum with my children. For many visitors, it’s a historical site. For me, it was something much more personal.During the war, I passed through that tunnel several times with my father and brother, and once with my mother. Back then, it wasn’t a museum or a symbol of resilience, it was a lifeline. A narrow, dark passage connecting people to hope, food, medicine, family, and survival. It was muddy, moisty and bombed at all times. Walking through it again decades later, I found myself seeing it through two lenses: as the child who once crossed it in uncertainty, and as the mother now sharing its story with the next generation. The Sarajevo Tunnel remains one of the most powerful reminders of the strength, courage, and determination of ordinary people during extraordinary times. This tunnel is A testament to human resilience. NONE CHILD SHOULD EVER EXPERIENCE WAR! #SarajevoTunnel #TunnelSpasa #Sarajevo #BosniaAndHerzegovina #WarMemories tunnelofhope @visitsarajevo.ba by @tamara_ukwu_
