Oil on board- This painting is finished. It’s called “Delayed Cord clamping” and the background is an impression of a massive placenta. Which when I said my painting idea out loud- it seemed kind of a gory image and I was determined to make it work I see a lot of birth workers and medical professionals online talk about the benefits of delayed cord clamping and although I don’t know the nitty gritty, it made me think of how I would paint that. A mother being left with her baby as the cord pulses carrying the remnants of blood and nutrients to baby. It’s that moment right after birth that really intrigues me. As it’s somewhere between two worlds- leaving the womb and then - entering the world. And rest on mums chest- to hear her heartbeat- this time a little more faded than when baby was in the womb hearing the heart like a loud drum.
