Next week marks one year since you’ve been gone. One year since you left us 🥺

They say time heals, that little by little, you learn to find a place for your grief. But the reality is different. It’s harder than ever. The realisation that you are now only a memory becomes more and more painful with every passing day.

But Pat, you were my whole life. My entire childhood. My family. My brother.

We grew up together. We shared our Sunday breakfasts. We argued over who got to hold the remote and who got to shower first.

How lucky I am that we got to share all of that.

But you won’t be there if I ever get married. My future children will never get to know what a loving uncle they have. I will never get to be the auntie to your children.

I should have been there for every part of your life. And you should have been there for every part of mine.

We should have had each other when the day eventually comes that we have to bury our parents or other family members. I was never supposed to stand beside Mum and Dad and bury you.

I miss you more than words could ever explain. And somehow, every single day, I miss you even more. by @tamaraovereem
