I’m Tamar Thorn Murray and thanks for your interest in my page and my work!
I have been tattooing since 2008 and I co-own @goodthingstattoo with my amazing partner @flesh_mechanics.
I love tattooing and will try almost anything in my skill range. My strengths lie in black and grey, colour, Neotraditional, anything animals or ornamental, art reproduction and illustrative.
I have a wonderful and talented husband who makes me laugh everyday @petermurraymade and 2 very old rescue weiners and a big baby wolf who complete our family.
I am a cancer survivor and am currently working hard on improving my mental and physical health to heal the trauma of diagnosis and treatment. This takes a long time and I’m still trying to figure a lot out but going through this has made me realize how important tattooing can be in a healing process. My work with breast cancer survivors is very special to me. Please reach out if you need post surgery areola tattoos!
My little family recently re-located to Swellendam WC and we are starting to settle into country life. I come back into Cape Town once a month to work, see friends and hang out with my tattoo family!
Thanks for reading 🧡

I work between Swellendam and Cape Town and prices vary. For Swellendam/Langeberg locals I currently offer a slightly discounted rate of R1000/hr as I am new in the town and would love to work on any project big or small.
!!Please see separate post for retreat pricing!!
When I am in Cape Town I work @goodthingstattoo and my rates are R1400/hour or R7500 for a full day.
To book in simply email bookings@tamarthorn.com or WhatsApp 0606033586 with a short introduction and your tattoo idea and let me know where you are based so we can quote accordingly.
Hope to work with you soon!

I am very fortunate to have a private studio just over a 2hr drive from Cape Town in the Beautiful town of Swellendam WC 🧡
I am very open to offer this space to work on larger pieces that will take multiple sessions or to tattoo my customers who just need a break from the city.
My pricing for retreats is R7500/day including accommodation and food or R6500/excluding accommodation. I am very selective on the work I take on so to book in please send your ideas for your tattoo and a short introduction to bookings@tamarthorn.com or WhatsApp 0606033586 to start the process!

@brendanmakingstuff came up to the Tiny Swellendam Studio to finish up his chestpiece. Sometimes retreats heal my clients, sometimes they heal me. Thank you for the giggles and the normal my friend! Life after death.

To all the friends and colleagues of Derek Baker far and wide ❤️

As many of you know, our friend Derek from Metal Machine Tattoo suffered a serious ladder accident and broke his leg. As a self-employed tattooer and studio owner, being unable to work has placed him and his family under enormous financial pressure.

The medical expenses are wracking up and his recovery will be slow with unknown rehabilitation costs to come.

For Mandela Day we’d love to bring the tattoo community together to raise funds for Dereks recovery and day to day expenses while he rests up and heals after multiple surgeries and a long hospital stay.

Please help us by donating any amount that you can spare to help out an icon of the South African Tattoo scene. taken in Metal Machine Tattoo Studio by @tamarthorn

I am so unbelievably humbled by Carmen. Three days in a row and I don’t think she moved once.. except when she woke up and forgot she was being tattooed.
Tattoo retreats are so healing.. not just for my beautiful customers, but also for me. My heart is full and I am so in love with this #medusa 🧡 Carmen, may she bring you healing and protection 🧡
