Some appointments stop being appointments.

At some point - the consultation turns into a catch-up.
The mirror becomes a witness to your life.

And the person doing your hair somehow ends up knowing about your new job, your heartbreak, your wedding plans, your kids, your dreams and everything in between.

I watched back a consultation with @talithabothma and realised we hardly spoke about hair at all.

Not because hair isn’t important.

But because after years together; trust speaks louder than words.

The most beautiful part of this job isn’t creating beautiful hair.

It’s growing alongside the women who sit in my chair.

Year after year.
Season after season.
Version after version of themselves.

The colour fades.
The hair grows.
Life changes.

But somehow - the chair stays the same.

Before I could even call myself a hairdresser - I already knew I wanted Talitha to sit in my chair!

I met Talitha years ago and she’s been in my chair every so often and I’ve never really been able to achieve my dream for her hair…

At first it was my lack of skill - then - time and the health of her hair wasn’t on our side…

So a few weeks ago we finally got our chance… we went ALL in. 😂

And then came that moment.

The mirror…
The smile…
The “oh my word, I love it.”

That will forever be my favourite part of this career!

Not the blonde.
Not the technique.
That feeling…

Making someone feel so good in their own hair that you can see it on their face.

That’s why I do this 🤍

There’s nothing like trying a new colour line and realising your brain is already thinking about all the possibilities. 👀🤍

Today’s demo with Cara was one of those moments.

We took this blonde back to the details that make a transformation feel expensive. A soft face frame to bring the brightness forward, a root melt to create that seamless blend and an all-over gloss to bring everything together.

But the part that really caught my attention? The feel of the hair after lightening and the softness of the finished result.

We followed with the Biosense peptide-bond treatment and I left this demo wanting to get straight back behind the chair and experiment some more.

Because as colourists, we all know the goal isn’t simply to create a beautiful before and after. It’s finding products that let us create beautiful colour while still caring about the canvas we work on.

The older I get in this industry; the more I realise how much there is to learn about something I’ve been doing for years!✂️

I genuinely never understood why hairstylists had five different pairs of scissors growing up. I thought scissors were scissors. 😂

Now I’m learning about the different tools, what they’re designed for and how much the right one can change the way you work.

It’s funny how you can spend years perfecting your craft and still find yourself back in learning mode.

Sometimes the biggest transformations don’t happen in the mirror.

They happen in the quiet moments when you sit a little taller, smile a little easier and remember who you are.

Hair is just hair.

But confidence?
Confidence changes the way you walk into a room, the way you speak and the way you show up for yourself.

I’ll never get tired of watching that moment happen in my chair.

I spend a lot of my day talking about hair.

But somewhere between the foils, coffees, life updates and “just one quick question…” moments, my chair becomes a place where the funniest conversations happen.

Some questions make me laugh.
Some make me pause.
Some become stories I tell for years.

The truth is - that’s always been my favourite part of this industry!

Not the colour formulas.
Not the before-and-afters.

The people.

The woman rushing in after work.
The mom who finally gets two hours to herself.
The client who arrives for highlights and leaves after giving me a full life update.
The ones who become friends without either of us meaning to.

Tam’s Chair is never meant to be just another salon appointment…

It’s always been a place where you can sit down, feel seen and leave feeling a little more like yourself.

And if you’ve ever wondered whether I cut hair on Saturdays, why December appointments disappear or whether I can magically create extra hours in a day… this post is for you. 😂

The only content that survived my day 😂

Somewhere between clients, colour, blow-dries, conversations and trying to remember to actually take content - this was all I got.

And honestly, I kind of love it.

Because this is what Tam’s Chair looks like now…

A little busier, a little fuller and officially a team of two. 🤍

Having Unathi beside me has been such a blessing. It’s one of those little milestones that makes me stop and think: “Wow… I’m actually building something here!”

I get to do more and somehow less at the same time 😂 and I’m so grateful for that.

Grateful to be busy. Grateful for the support. Grateful for every person who sits in my chair and keeps this little business growing.

Life update 🤍

I know a lot of people have been checking in and asking for updates.

The truth is, there isn’t much of one yet.

I’ve been contacted by Tygerberg Hospital and I’m currently waiting for my appointment. The next step is still a biopsy.

It’s strange because some days it still doesn’t feel real that this is something I’m actually dealing with.

What I do know is that this season has made me appreciate the present more than ever.

I’m grateful for the space I’m in, the team I get to spend my days with, the beautiful clients who continue choosing my chair and the people who love and support me through it all.

For now - I’m learning to stop living in the “what ifs” and to cherish the moments that are right in front of me. 🩷
