Have you ever wondered what Horticulture is? Our students told us what horticulture is to them.

Our definition is that; Horticulture integrates science, technology, art, and business for cultivating and genetically improving fruits, vegetables, nuts, tea, coffee, flowers, wine, medicinal plants, turf, and ornamental plants, and utilization of these plants for food, health, aesthetics, and environmental benefit along with the design and management of landscapes and green spaces. As an interdisciplinary field, horticulture contributes to sustainability, wellness, food security, and environmental enhancement, supporting both human well-being and ecosystem resilience.

Love it or think it tastes like soap, cilantro is Texas' newest superstar plant! 🌿

Also called coriander or Chinese parsley, this low-maintenance herb thrives in the cooler months and grows fast. Let a few plants go to seed, and they'll often replant themselves for next year.

See how to grow your own: tx.ag/CilantroSuperstar Close-up of fresh cilantro leaves with small, delicate white flowers in the background, surrounded by lush greenery. by @tamuhort

HERE FROM THE BEGINNING. As we celebrate 150 years of Texas A&M, we celebrate how far the Texas A&M University Department of Horticultural Sciences has come. From one greenhouse in a corner of campus to the #1 horticulture program in Texas and one of the nation’s leading programs, our Department now spans more than 300 acres of research fields, 50,000 square feet of greenhouse space, and faculty based at Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Centers across the state.

Here from the beginning. From one greenhouse to all of Texas. And we’re still growing. by @tamuhort

Growing potatoes in Texas means battling heat and disease. 🥔

The Texas A&M Potato Breeding Program develops varieties built for both. Led by Dr. Isabel Vales in @tamuhort, the program has released 14 commercial varieties bred for heat tolerance, disease resistance and market demand.

Learn more about the program: tx.ag/PotatoBreedingProgram A vast field with freshly harvested potatoes scattered across the soil, under a cloudy sky. The horizon is flat and expansive, suggesting a rural agricultural setting. by @tamuhort
