POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Haha I’m well over a month late to this, but better late than never! Here are some of the books that I loved, enjoyed and disliked.

I feel as though I don’t really talk as much about the books I don’t like, or are at least disappointed by, on this account, but maybe it would be fun to do a few posts talking about these?

Is your list similar? Are there any books you would disagree with me on? 🤍

Here are three of my favourite French books!

I love to explore books from around the world, and France has so many incredible and influential writers that I love to discuss. If you haven’t read any of these yet, I’d really recommend giving them a go :)

Here is everything that I read in September! I read three very different books this month, but I’m glad I got to explore genres that were so different.

I think my favourite definitely had to be A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I loved reading of Francie and her family. They felt very real and fleshed out, with their own individual challenges and struggles. I just love a book that features a young woman who wants to become a writer, in general.

What was your favourite book that you read in September?

I realised that I have been tracking my reading since 2020, and thought it would be a fun post to see what I was reading each year.

It of course doesn’t matter how much you read (you can see that I rarely reach my targets). All that matters is that you are enjoying what you read, no matter how much that may be :)

I loved reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. It felt so beautifully written and personal, and yet so honest in the struggles of growing up in Brooklyn in the 1910’s. If you haven’t read this already, or if you’re stuck in a bit of a reading slump, you absolutely should pick this up.

I am once again super late to a trend, but I have finally made a post ha 🤍

Not to be super controversial, but you could not pay me to reread Fahrenheit 451 😬. It was just really not for me, but I’ve seen a lot of people disagreeing with this. I can appreciate the influence it has had on dystopian literature, but I think that there are far more books that deserve the praise that Fahrenheit 451 gets.

Do you agree with these? What would you swap around?

The unlikeable narrator, and why I think we should read these books.

This was such an interesting topic to think about and make a post for. It can be very uncomfortable to read books with unlikeable narrators as they often force us into the mind of someone we disagree with, or find repulsive. But often these characters are metaphors or critiques of specific ideologies and concepts. American Psycho always springs to my mind with this, but I recently read Disgrace and that was what made me want to make this post.

I’d love to hear other people’s ideas on this, and other book recommendations that feature an unlikeable narrator.

Here are 5 quotes that I will never forget, and that will hopefully convince you to read these books if you haven’t already.

These are the quotes that I continued to think about, long after closing the book. Some I feel I can relate to, and others just left me speechless - even if they are simple. I desperately want to reread all of these books now after flicking through and finding these passages, especially The Bell Jar. I feel like it’s been too long.

What quote always sticks with you? 🤍

I recently went on a solo trip to Paris and had to explore the bookshops around the city 🤍 I thought this would be a fun little post to share some quick pics taken whilst there.

Unfortunately you aren’t allowed to take pictures from inside Shakespeare & Co, but inside it was so amazing! There was a wonderful reading room upstairs that was filled with interesting books. I had not seen a lot of the books in these either, and there was a lot of great translated literature (particularly by female authors, which felt so fitting for August!)

A big thank you to @aleksinpages for giving me so many wonderful bookshop recommendations 🤍

July was a very busy reading month, and I have discovered so many amazing new authors. Unfortunately I have definitely hit a bit of a reading slump now though! I think it is because I’ve found so many fantastic books that everything else is currently paling in comparison haha. It will not last though.

My favourite books in July were definitely One Hundred Years of Solitude and The Copenhagen Trilogy. They are so different that I can’t even begin to decide which I preferred, but both are absolute masterpieces. If you haven’t read them already, I envy that you get to for the first time.

What was your favourite read in July? 🤍

Here are my 3 favourite magical realism novels. This is my favourite genre, and I could talk about these books forever. I think magical realism is such a stepping stone into my realising how much I love translated literature, and books from around the world. A realisation which I am so thankful for.

One Hundred Years Of Solitude is my most recent of these reads and all I can say is wow. If you haven’t read this already, or you’re interested in magical realism please read book!

Which magical realism novel would you recommend? 🍄

What I would give to reread this memoir again for the first time. I hate that I finished it so quickly, but at the same time I could not put it down. Childhood, Youth, Dependency by Ditlevsen is so raw and brutal and honest that you can’t help but keep reading.

It made me think of The Bell Jar in a lot of ways. There are definitely similarities between the two books. But then does that not pose the question of why did so many women have to struggle to pursue art and writing? How many amazingly talented women were prevented from becoming writers because of the world around them? I find it so shocking when I remember how recent a lot of these works are. They are lived realities, even today.

Have you read The Copenhagen Trilogy? 🤍
