I LOVE Kelp! Initially, free diving here was intimidating (quite the mental game). Foreign, dark, towering structures will do that to you… but over time when you learn how to read the conditions & treat this place with respect it starts to open up and share one of the most beautiful places that planet earth has to offer. Stepping in & out washes all negativity away and provides a level of confidence & strength that I wish everyone could experience. Full disclosure this is October 2025. Ongoing storms in Pacific have dramatically changed the reef and has made experiencing this feel that much more special. A scene this Colorado kid could only dream of. It’s all too easy getting caught on an endless quest trying to observe all the life down here when in reality what I’m really chasing are moments like this. Like being in awe of the sheer volume of the night sky, underneath in the Pacific Ocean kelp forests life has a way of overloading your senses.
