Hi! My name is Tanya. I'm a 39 year old book lover living in Maryland, USA. (I've gotten some new followers lately so I decided to redo this.) Here are some facts about me:
- I love reading (which might be obvious).
- I review books I've purchased for myself and ARCs from NetGalley.
- My favorite kinds of books to read are autobiographies, contemporary, horror, lgbtqia+, mystery/thrillers, some nonfiction, romance and young adult.
- I have a cat named Moxley.
- I sell my used books on Pango.
- I love going to Little Free Libraries.
- I love to watch horror movies and wrestling.
- I listen to a lot of pop punk, nu-metal and other loud things mixed with stuff from the 80's to now.
- My favorite band is Avenged Sevenfold.

Day 7 of @creepyghoulsbookclub October Challenge is Horror Movie. One of my favorites is Scream. I thrifted the collectors box set of the trilogy years ago and each movie has neat extras. When they started making the movies again I picked up the 6 in 1 at Target.

*Book Review*

Home Before Dark

Home Before Dark is the second book that I've read by RIley Sager so far and I like it better than the other one that I read (The House Across the Lake). The main character, Maggie, has just inherited Baneberry Hall, the Victorian estate in Vermont that has defined her whole life thanks to the book her father wrote when she was a kid about how her family had to move away because it was haunted. She has a home renovation company and plans to just flip the place despite warnings from her dying father and distant mother. Upon moving in, things she experiences start mirroring the book that she always discounted as fiction. Could she have moved into a haunted house?
I liked Maggie as a character. She just wants answers about "The Book" that has defined her whole life and she's never really gotten them. I enjoyed the writing style of this book and how the chapters were set up. Each one starts off with a chapter from House of Horrors and it gives us an idea of what the family experienced while living in the house. I wasn't expecting the twist and the ending was good.

I read 10 books in September, but none of them were really great. The best book that I read last month was The Taming of the Drew by Stephanie Kate Strohm, a fun young adult retelling of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.

My Best Friend's Honeymoon

This is about two best friends: Ginny (non-binary, enjoys woodworking, recently quit their graphic design job, has been in love with Elsie since high school) and Elsie (pansexual, works at her family's hardware store, recently broke off her engagement after her fiance planned a surprise wedding) who go on the honeymoon vacation to a tropical lgbt+ inclusive resort that Elsie's ex fiance had paid for. While there, Ginny tells Elsie she can have anything she wants in an effort to get her to open up and learn more about herself. It ends up that what Elsie really wants is Ginny and lots of sex.
I liked the lead up to the characters getting to the resort, but once they got there, it's just sex. I was hoping for a better relationship development. Once they get home, things are just kinda silly. I like that both Elsie and Ginny were doing things for themselves, but the miscommunication trope really didn't work for me in this one. They wasted so much time not talking to each other, and I get that it's the point of that, but I wanted them to have more time to actually be together.
