I made this song some months ago the way I usually make a song: seated at my desk with a telecaster glued to my belly as little elves came and tickled my feet. With every giggle, my little friends helped guide me towards a place of sonic satisfaction. And yes… they do smell like fresh gingerbread. “Zippo zappo!” as they like to say.
As far as this song goes, the first half puts me in a trance the way a conversation with a brilliant soul will. The second half makes me want to stand underneath the stream of an outdoor shower while soaking in the Southern California sun, watching the water run down my arm and slide off of my fingertips like I’m Poseidon, king of the sea! The song as a whole feels true to the memory of the person I was at the time. This one is for the slow motion moments. It’s for the trees. It’s for you.

It appears to me again that all progress is made in baby steps. Even big swings are really just composed of many small incremental movements. Of course there are times when invisible forces will come along to open the clouds, align the stars, and set the wind in our sails for an extra bit of jet fuel. However, with or without those winks from the Heavens, our journey is largely dependent on our own feet’s shuffles to move us through the sands of Life. The greatest distances are still only covered one step at a time. by @tanneragpoon

Ahhhh this project has been a doozy. I guess that’s perfect considering the theme behind it.. So let me tell U a little bit about its conception! Palm, sky, & i made a challenge for each other back in August this year to make a song every day for one week. I think i kept that up for close to a month straight.. it was awesome. About 30 new songs!… 5 of those tracks are on this project. Turnpike and What’s the wait? were made back in the Koreatown crib. Maybe a little under half a year ago. The one thru line of all these songs were they were made in good spirit, around good friends. That’s my favorite part.

The project title has a been a phrase i’ve held for a few years now.. I’m stoked it came together for these songs. I feel it sums up the stage of growing up i’ve been in / exiting the past year or so. Growing pains. I’ve come out the other side surprised and excited. I always thought growing up meant i had to start being all serious and uptight. Instead i have found the exact opposite.

Cool. I wanted to give yall some words to accompany the sounds. I hope yall check this one out! I’m working on the next one 😼 heh. Good things coming. Good things are here.

‘Growing Pains’ out everywhere
