It’s live.

Film Finance HQ is officially out in the world and I’m honestly so excited to finally share this.

If you’ve followed along, you know this started as my personal system. I built it because I was tired of payroll confusion, missing timecards, credit card chaos, and that constant low level stress of wondering if something slipped through the cracks.

Let’s be honest. As indie producers, we do not have time for financial confusion. We don’t have giant teams. We don’t have layers of accounting. Most of the time we’re managing prep, crew, vendors, locations, and somehow also keeping an eye on the money.

That only works if your systems are solid.

Film Finance HQ gives you one place to see what’s been paid, what’s coming up, what you can afford, and where you need to adjust before it turns into a problem. It creates clarity and visibility in real time so you’re not scrambling at wrap trying to piece everything together.

I never intended for Film Finance HQ to be a product.

It was just my private operating system.

Every tab in that spreadsheet exists because something went wrong at some point and I didn’t want it to happen again.

Payroll delays.
Lost timecards.
Cashflow confusion.
Late-night credit card reconciliation.

I wasn’t building something to sell.

I was building something so I could breathe….and sleep.

For years, it just lived on my laptop.

Then accountants I worked with started asking for it.
Then one of them shared it with a line producer who was drowning.

And that’s when it hit me —

There might be someone out there who feels the way I felt in the beginning.

Scared they’re missing something.
Unsure what they’re supposed to know.
Trying to hold it all together in prep.

Making a film is a lot like building a house.

You don’t start with the pretty finishes.
You start with the foundation.

If you skip the foundation and try to build while people are already working, you’ll spend the entire shoot trying to catch up.

There is an order to prep.

It isn’t the fun stuff first.

Before anyone is on on the clock & before money starts moving you should have:

• Your bank accounts set up
• ACH + wire permissions established
• Clear approval workflows
• A cashflow projection built
• Payroll company onboarded
• A system for tracking deals + startwork

If you try to build your financial infrastructure while crew is already working, you’re not going to be able to focus on either details or the creative.

That’s when mistakes happen.
That’s when payroll gets delayed.
That’s when you’re tripping over your own feet.

The calmest productions I’ve run were the ones where the financial systems were built first.

That “unknown unknown” feeling is what keeps a lot of producers in constant low-grade anxiety.
