HAND-TUFTED OR HAND-KNOTTED? Two time-honoured techniques, two distinct ways of bringing a design to life. Hand-tufted rugs are created by working yarn through a stretched foundation cloth using a tufting gun. Guided by hand, the tufter builds the design row by row, allowing for expressive textures, sculptural relief and varied pile heights. Hand-knotted rugs are made knot by knot, with each individual knot tied by hand around the warp threads. The density of the knots allows for fine detail, intricate patterns and a distinctive depth and character that develops over time. Both techniques offer different possibilities for texture, detail, material and expression — and the right choice depends on the design, desired finish and how the rug will be used. At Tappeti, we consider every element to determine the technique that best brings each rug to life. #tappeti #tappetirugs #rugs #rugsaustralia #rugsasia by @tappeti

A handcrafted rug is made to be lived with. With the right care, its beauty, texture and character can be enjoyed for years to come. To help preserve your rug, follow our best-practice care recommendations: Vacuum Regularly | Use a suction-only vacuum without a rotating brush or beater bar to gently remove dust and debris. Rotate Occasionally | Rotate your rug periodically, if possible, to help distribute foot traffic and natural fading evenly. Act Quickly on Spills | Blot spills gently with a clean, absorbent cloth. Avoid rubbing, which can work the spill deeper into the fibres. Protect from Direct Sunlight | Where possible, keep your rug away from prolonged direct sunlight to help minimise fading. Professional Cleaning | For deeper cleaning, we recommend using a professional rug cleaner experienced in caring for handcrafted rugs and their specific fibres. Every rug is different, and its care can depend on its construction, materials and placement. Treat it with care, and let the craftsmanship endure. #tappeti #tappetirugs #rugcare #rugsaustralia #rugsasia by @tappeti

"Mali Dune, almost tribal based in the repetitive chevron and diamond patterns that meld together creating a continuous graphic pattern of wall-to-wall carpet enhanced by two distinct pile heights and deep saturated colours of merlot and burnt orange. For a room that is so cocooning in colour saturation it was obvious that the rug design needed to equally tie the whole room together. The design does not quote any single cultural motif, the pattern abstracts that shared weaving discipline, repetition, symmetry, directional turn into a visually graphic architectural rug. Designed to anchor, cocoon the room with deep saturated colour, pattern and textural feeling." A GUIDE TO RUG FIBRES The fibre of a rug shapes its texture, lustre, softness and character. Different fibres create different finishes, making material selection an important part of the design process. New Zealand Wool — naturally soft, resilient and tactile. Art-Silk — smooth, soft and beautifully lustrous. Deblynn (Nylon) — durable, versatile and resilient. Tappysylk (Polyester) — soft with a luminous, silky finish. Tibetan Highland Wool — soft, warm and naturally resilient. Hemp — strong, textured and naturally organic. Nettle — lightweight with a distinctive natural texture. Cactus — tactile with an earthy, organic character. Linen — natural, cool and understated. Viscose — soft and lustrous with beautiful movement. Real Silk — fine, delicate and exceptionally lustrous. Pashmina — exceptionally soft, fine and luxurious. Each fibre brings its own qualities to a rug. The right choice depends on the design, desired finish, performance and how the rug will live within a space. #tappeti #tappetirugs #rugs #rugsaustralia #rugsasia by @tappeti
