ATHX Marseille — Pace vs Output

2-Round Testing Protocol

ROUND I — Race Pace

🏃 1km Run
→ Run at your intended ATHX race pace

⛷️ SkiErg
→ Work for the remainder of an 8-minute block

Record:

* 1km time
* SkiErg distance / calories
* Total score

⸻

ROUND II — Controlled Pace

🏃 1km Run
→ 10–15 seconds slower than Round I

⛷️ SkiErg
→ Work for the remainder of the same 8-minute block

Record:

* 1km time
* SkiErg distance / calories
* Total score

Rest

Full recovery between rounds — I’d give yourself 6–8 minutes so fatigue from Round I doesn’t distort the experiment.

🧬 What You’re Actually Testing

⚡ Power preservation
Can you arrive at the SkiErg with enough capacity to still produce meaningful output?

🔥 Fatigue tolerance
How much does a harder opening kilometre compromise your second discipline?

💨 Aerobic efficiency
Can you sustain a strong pace without unnecessarily driving up the physiological cost of the run?

🧠 Pacing strategy
Can you override the instinct to simply run as fast as possible?

🇫🇷 Conditioning With T // Session XX

ATHX MetCon X | Marseille 2027 Prep

3 Rounds | 25-Minute Time Cap

• 500m SkiErg
• 15 Alternating DB Ground to Overhead | 20kg
• 30m Sandbag Carry | 50kg
• 15 Box Jump Overs | 24” / 60cm
• 20m DB Walking Lunges | 20kg DBs
• 10m Burpee Broad Jumps

🎯 Intent

• A competition-inspired session built around the demands of the ATHX MetCon.

• The aim is to practise moving efficiently between machine work, loaded carries, awkward objects and high-output jumping.

• The 25-minute cap gives the session some pressure. Manage your pace, don’t just chase it.

• The real challenge is maintaining output as fatigue stacks from one movement into the next. The lunges and broad jumps arrive when your legs already have nothing left.

🧬 Energy Systems

⚡ ATP-PC

• Explosive efforts through the GTOH, box jump overs and broad jumps.

🔥 Glycolytic

• Repeated high-intensity efforts and accumulating muscular fatigue throughout the rounds, especially the carry into the lunges.

💨 Oxidative

• Working throughout the session to support recovery and keep you moving across all three rounds.

🇫🇷 WHY I’M COMPETING

I coach this every day. And when you spend your time programming for other people, it gets easy to stop being the one under the bar.

So I sat down and asked myself an honest question. Am I still pushing my own boundaries, or just everyone else’s?

ATHX is the answer to that.

If I’m asking clients to find out what they’re capable of, I need to keep finding out what I’m capable of too.

🇫🇷 MARSEILLE 2027

Paris sold out.

So… Marseille it is.

This isn’t a full ATHX simulation. It’s another step towards being ready for one.

The goal isn’t just to finish. It’s to be able to perform when you’re already tired.

One session at a time.

Conditioning With T // Session XIX

20-Minute EMOM

Min 1
10 Double KB Swing → Front Squat

Min 2
8 Alternating DB Devil Press (4/side)

Min 3
12–15 Cal Bike Erg

Min 4
16 Lateral Line Hops + 8 Chest-to-Floor Burpees

Repeat × 5 Rounds

⸻

🎯 Intent

• Build explosive power through the hips before challenging control in the front squat.

• Raise your heart rate with the Devil Press, then learn to recover while still working on the Bike Erg.

• Finish with reactive footwork and burpees to test coordination and movement quality under fatigue.

• The goal isn’t to sprint every minute, it’s to stay consistent, move well, and earn your recovery.

⸻

🧬 Energy Systems

⚡ ATP-PC

• Explosive power during the KB swings, Devil Press, and lateral hops.
• Short, powerful efforts that rely on speed and force production.

🔥 Glycolytic

• Repeated high-intensity work through the complexes and burpees.
• Challenges your ability to keep moving as fatigue builds.

💨 Oxidative

• The Bike Erg keeps your aerobic engine working.
• Helps you recover between stations and maintain output across all five rounds.

⸻

🌶️ Coaching Takeaway

• Don’t rush Round 1.
• Move with purpose, not panic.
• Stay smooth on the transitions.
• The aim is to finish Round 5 looking as close to Round 1 as possible.

Save it, give it a go, and let me know how you got on.

Conditioning With T // Session XVIII

“The Ladder”

For Time

21 • 18 • 15 • 12 • 9

🏋️ Alternating DB Snatch
📦 75cm Box Jump Overs (Step Down)

🚣 After every round:
250m Row Erg

⸻

🎯 Intent

This session is designed to test your ability to manage intensity as fatigue builds.

The higher opening reps encourage patience and efficient movement, while the descending ladder tempts you to increase the pace with every round. The challenge isn’t simply working harder—it’s recognising when to push and when to stay composed.

The row acts as the pacing checkpoint, the snatches demand explosive power, and the 75cm box jump overs challenge your ability to stay reactive and coordinated when your legs are already under fatigue.

⸻

🧬 Energy Systems

⚡ ATP-PC
The snatches and box jumps rely on rapid force production, using your body’s fastest energy system for short, explosive efforts.

🔥 Glycolytic
The high-rep opening rounds create sustained muscular fatigue, challenging your ability to tolerate repeated high-intensity efforts without a significant drop in performance.

💨 Oxidative
Working continuously in the background, your aerobic system helps replenish energy stores, clear fatigue, and keep your pace consistent from the first round to the last.

⸻

🌶️ Coaching Takeaway

The athletes who perform best aren’t usually the ones who explode out of the gate.

They’re the ones who stay disciplined early, move efficiently through every transition, and know exactly when to increase the intensity.

Train smart. Finish strong.

Save it, give it a go, and let me know your time.

ANKLE MOBILITY & STABILITY: MOVE IT, THEN CONTROL I

Most people stretch their ankles and stop there. 🦶

But a good ankle does two jobs: it moves well, and it stabilises under load. Train one without the other and you get range you can’t control — or stiffness that limits your squat, your running and your overhead stuff downstream.

This is a full ankle session in 6 drills, built to progress in order:

1️⃣ Seated Ankle CARs — joint health & active range
2️⃣ Half-Kneeling Banded Dorsiflexion — free up that knee-over-toe range
3️⃣ Inversion-Bias Step Down — control the foot rolling in
4️⃣ Eversion-Bias Step Down — control the foot rolling out
5️⃣ Low Split Squat Inversion Isometric — build strength in the position
6️⃣ Low Split Squat Eversion Isometric — lock in side-to-side stability

Mobility first, control second, load last. That’s the order that actually sticks.

Bulletproof ankles = better squats, fewer rolled ankles, and a base you can trust. 💪
