BLUE ROAD - THE EDNA O’BRIEN STORY is released in UK cinemas today by @modernfilmsent

For screening info at the link in our bio

It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to be UK co producers on the film critics are calling “a tender, gripping portrait” and a “moving tribute” to an icon of Irish literature, and undoubtedly one of the greatest writers of our time.

If you’ve yet to read Edna’s work, this is a great way in.

Thanks @britishfilminstitute for supporting the film through its UK Global Screen Fund.

And happy UK release day @sineadeoshea @clairemarymccabe and team!

Tara Films is a production company helmed by BIFA winning, Emmy and PGA nominated filmmakers @kathrynferguson and @eleanor_emptage

The company’s first venture began in 2018 with their debut project Nothing Compares - a documentary about the artist Sinéad O’Connor. Nothing Compares premiered at @sundanceorg (World Cinema Documentary Competition) in January 2022 to critical acclaim, and went on to win multiple international awards.

In 2024, we are thrilled to unveil a new slate of non-fiction and drama projects, starting with Blue Road - The Edna O’Brien Story, which Tara Co-Produced with support from the UK Global Screen Fund. The film is directed by @sineadeoshea and will premiere at @tiff_net this weekend.

Tara is committed to making inspiring, cinematic work that sits at the intersection of the personal and the political. From stories about cultural icons, to life changing events, we look to shine a light on underrepresented voices and to make films that matter.

New projects to be announced soon. by @tarafilms

Quite unbelievable news to share.😮
@nostalgie_short_film has just been named a contender for Best Live Action Short at this year’s @theacademy Awards. Thank you @hollywoodreporter
This deserves a big Belfast yeeeooo! by @tarafilms

So happy to share that @sundanceorg have backed Matrescence with a Documentary Fund production grant. The festival team were such a great support with Nothing Compares in 2022, so it’s wonderful to be continuing our journey together with this new film. I’m so proud of this one already, and grateful to be on this film journey with comrades @eleanor_emptage @tarafilms and Rosie Crerar @barrycrerar

Motherhood in the West is deeply problematic, shaped by systems rooted in patriarchy, racism and capitalism, making it almost impossible for mothers to thrive. During development and now into production, we’ve watched the growing news coverage of the systemic failings mothers face postpartum, set against the radical new science trying to understand and protect women from those failings. The stats around maternal mental health right now are truly startling. Using @lucyfjones cult book as our North Star, we’re meeting world-leading scientists, biologists, grassroots community leaders, lobbyists, birth activists, midwives and most importantly birthing people, as we work out how we’ve got here and how meaningful change happens.

Huge thanks to @sundanceorg @sandboxfilms and @screenscots for their support along the way.

Looking forward to being at @docsireland in a few weeks, and catching up with documentary pals old and new.

We’re delighted to be in the Marketplace this year with SILENT STORIES (working title) - a documentary we’ve been developing about @marilynstaffordphotography. @kathrynferguson and @eleanor_emptage will both be there to talk about the film.

On June 19th Kathryn will be taking part in the @wftv_uk Docs Ireland Panel: Who Gets to Tell the Story alongside @_alisonmillar @sineadeoshea and Neasa Ní Chianáin, discussing creative autonomy, and creating self driven work in these challenging times. The panel will be moderated by @eimhearo

Also on June 19th, Kathryn is moderating a Q&A with @cara_holmes_editor_director after the screening of her brilliant new doc Lesbian Lines.

Hope to see some of you there! by @tarafilms

POST hosts NOTHING COMPARES in collaboration with Tara Films @tarafilms

We are delighted to welcome Eleanor Emptage, the Award-Winning Producer and Co-Writer of ‘Nothing Compares’, to introduce the film and host a Q & A after the screening.

‘Nothing Compares’ charts Sinéad O’Connor’s phenomenal rise to worldwide fame, and examines how she used her voice at the height of her stardom before he iconoclastic personality led to her exile from the pop mainstream.
