When you buy a “restored” car but it turns out to be way below my standard and you decide to start all over again. With the help of my magician @dehaan.jacob the 356 will return better than new… .Starting to look like a car again.. 💙💙💙 Long way to go but such progress! by @targa_78

Twin plug distributor anyone? 😂 spent 2 days machining and re-designing my 123 ignition. Using of the shelf twin plug rotor and distributor cap from a Japanese car. Had to fabricate a new rotor shaft to fit the new rotor. Machined the ignition housing down and in the process my mill shifted and damaged the housing unfortunately, so I made a metal side cover to fix this. Then machined a collar to take the larger distributor cap. Making it sound easy but this was 2 days of machining. Just have to screw back the electronics board and test it! Think it looks really cool. And since I have to take this engine apart anyhow, I might as well machine the heads for a second plug. No extra power from this modification, just smoother running and a more even burn pattern in the combustion chamber. 💪👍💙 by @targa_78

Decided to start figuring out the brake setup for the 356. I wanted something different but that fits a 15” wheel. Not very easy it turned out. The 356C discbrake hub is a nice starting point but my experience with the ride height of a standard 356 makes this not an option. When the car is lowered, there is hardly any suspension travel left. So here comes the drop spindle. No options from Porsche but VW has some. Same king/link pin setup in both cars. Sourced some vw dropspindles and modified those. The studs will be shortened to the correct length once I receive the ARP narrow head nuts. Reason for studs is they have more strength. Next problem; I wanted to use porsche discs and calipers. In comes a custom hub that accepts a Porsche 282 x 20 disc but VW big bearings. This way the sacrifice in offset on each side is only millimeters but I can run the setup I want. Next I wanted to use the first generation Boxster calipers, compact and extremely lightweight! Next hurdle was the caliper adapter bracket. Since the calipers move from the aft side of the hub to the front, I had to make sure that the suspension arms clear the whole assembly. Which they perfectly do in this way. This setup even perfectly clears a steel 5 1/2x 15 oem wheel and a Fuchs deep 6… how’s that for clearance!! All in all a very difficult road to achieve my goals but we got there in the end! Happy with this setup!! The rear I have no pictures of yet but was much simpler due to the fact I’m using 911 SWB trailing arms. 💪💙 by @targa_78

Back to square one…. Have to take the 356 engine completely apart again and all due to my own mistake. I trusted a known supplier when I bought a set of checked and rebuilt connecting rods. And my mistake was that I didn’t verify myself resulting in a light knock in one of the rear rods… ah well, gotta have a hobby… 😬💙 by @targa_78
