August 2026 I appear to have gained the monicker of 'that seaweed woman' somewhere along the ways. I will think on this. But firstly, I will acknowledge that I am merely stepping onto a well worn path of female naturalists who walked the seashores and documented their insights in numerous "unscientific" means and ways. And who were often derided as "mad" by their societies standards - mainly mens standards. And that first thought makes my rebellious soul feel quite chuffed 👊

Selfie in a doorknob. 📸😉
I've spent the morning documenting an asbestos shack marked for demo. The asbestos lasts but everything else rots and falls apart, and this then compromises the asbestos so due diligence means careful demolition.

So another one bites the dust tommorrow.

The kitchen cupboards of this one came from a shack on Garden Island. That shack got dismantled when the Navy took over and the owners then transported that shack in pieces to GTown to live on for another few decades 👊

Studio selfie 📸 with Anne Carson's reinterpretation of the well known quote 'I think, therefore I am' from Descartes. Carson says the original actually starts with 'dubito' which means "I doubt" . In the artistic tussel between thinking and simply being I like that she's thrown in the clangers of 'everything' and 'doubt' .
"Everything starts in doubt" ... from the original interview with Anne Carson at Louisiana Literature Festival 2024

I had this book by the Department of Australia as a youngster. Anyone else? I love the idea of being told what to do by a poem.
This 'poem in charge' idea also came up in a podcast I was listening to where the English poet Alice Oswald was speaking about Ted Hughes. She considers that a poem performs the writer and not the other way around. Hughes has a speaking voice and a performing voice. This was a LRBookshop podcast which has archival audio of Hughes reading his poems Little Blood and The Thought Fox. You can hear the difference, its quite beautfiul 🥰.

And this is my segway into saying there's an exciting announcement coming soon from the poetry world for me ⭐️👏 ...
