Today marks the end to an EP that started 6 years ago in Germany.

Kneeling on the Paket floor of my first Berlin flat, @axxhimk and I played on the modular synth for a few hours.

There was this one texture we made that sounded really fresh to me and I got obsessed with processing it. Over the next few weeks I reworked the jam into a demo, which later became the track ‘Nock’.

The rest of the EP was largely written and refined during Covid, when I was locked down alone. I had to travel by night train to Köln about 20 times. The tunnels, flashing blue lights and dark forests inspired the sound. There was a lot of pressure to release tracks during the lockdown, but I’m glad I waited until they were fully baked.

It’s hard to believe that the era is finally over, it’s cathartic in way.

I had so much support from friends and family who constantly rooted for me and my music. There are too many to name. I’m very grateful for you all (apologies if I missed any). @axxhimk @anna.quuu @jonas_orbiting @mariaisabel_p_y @c._wenteng_ @xaver_huber and to my new friends in Taiwan who have supported my music so much @scorn_corp @lemonfacer @gazer.417 @nick.tsai.140 @troy55555 @iliylin and of course the label who graciously agreed to release it @ankr.tw

曾居住於柏林的製作人與現場表演藝術家，現居台灣。擅長模組合成器、Techno、Breaks 和氛圍音樂的創作。出生於科羅拉多，曾旅居北京與波特蘭，並於 2019 年定居柏林。

他的單曲《Lurk》和《The Suffler》讓他在地下音樂圈嶄露頭角。疫情期間，他進一步精進製作技術，並參與 Meow Wolf 的沉浸式聲音藝術展。2022 年，他發行了突破界限的 Tendril EP，融合 Broken Beat 與氛圍元素。

近期，Taro 的單曲《Gas Burn》由英國廠牌 Baroque Sunburst 發行，並收錄了知名製作人 Flørist 的 UK Funky 混音。作為 Glow Berlin 的一員，他活躍於非法派對與地下音樂活動，將俱樂部節拍與情感充沛的氛圍音樂完美融合。

A producer and live performer formerly based in Berlin, now residing in Taiwan. Specializing in modular synthesis, their work spans techno, breaks, and ambient music. Born in Colorado, their musical journey has taken them through Beijing and Portland, before settling in Berlin in 2019 to further hone their craft.

His white-label singles ”Lurk“ and ”The Suffler“ established him in the underground scene, while his 2022 Tendril EP showcased genre-defying broken beat tracks with an ambient touch. During the pandemic, he expanded his artistry through an immersive sound art exhibition at Meow Wolf.

Recently, his track ”Gas Burn“ caught the attention of Baroque Sunburst, featuring a UK funky remix by acclaimed producer Flørist. As a member of Glow Berlin, Taro hosts (i)llegal raves and underground events, bridging club-ready beats with emotionally rich ambient soundscapes.

We played a live hypnotic techno set inside the Chiayi East Market a few months ago and filmed the whole performance.

We brought modular synths, drum machines running straight through the noise of a working traditional market. There were scooters going through the isles, people grabbing lunch and buying groceries.

This is the same area where Nick’s family has run a stall for generations.

Nick grew up around these stalls, and bringing our electronic music back into the space his family has worked for so long was a wholesome experience.

We’re grateful to the stall owners, the market manager, and the Chiayi City Government for trusting us to take over a working stall for the day and turn it into a stage.

Sono presents Klubnacht

For Sono’s first techno Klubnacht at FINAL DJs open and close the night, with Tsaro’s full hardware live set in the middle.

Behind Tsaro are Nick Tsai and Taro. Tsai, a musician based in Taichung, has spent years shaping a unique modular ambient style. He fuses natural sounds and pulsating waveforms to breathe life into his live sets. He has played the Tokyo Festival of Modular, scored films, exhibitions and travels around Asia and Europe to perform his work.

Taro a producer originally from the US, was shaped by his 5 years in the Berlin techno scene before moving to Taiwan. What stayed with him were the live sets. His music spans techno, electro, breaks and ambient. Taro’s music has been played by DJs including Piezo and Upsammy with releases ok ANKR (TW) and Baroque Sunburst (UK).

Together they have performed many sets across Asia and have focused on hypnotic techno. They played live in Japan, at DAO in Taichung, at the Sonic Wanderings Festival, and most recently at Chiayi’s East Market.

With Sono’s new event series Klubnacht, they focus on curating hypnotic techno nights where the DJ and VJs aren’t the main character, but rather the music and the audience’s personal introspection is.

Sono 於 FINAL 舉辦的首場 techno Klubnacht，由 DJ 開場並收尾，中場則交給 Tsaro 完整的硬體現場演出（live set）。

Tsaro 的成員是 Nick Tsai 與 Taro。Tsai 是一位駐點台中的音樂人，多年來發展出獨樹一格的模組合成器（modular）氛圍音樂風格。他將自然聲響與脈動的波形融合，為現場演出注入生命力。他曾登上東京模組合成器音樂節（Tokyo Festival of Modular）演出，並為電影與展覽配樂，也走訪亞洲與歐洲各地表演他的作品。

Taro 是一位來自美國的製作人，移居台灣前，曾在柏林 techno 場景浸淫五年，深受其形塑。真正在他心中留下印記的，是那些現場演出。他的音樂橫跨 techno、electro、breaks 與 ambient。Taro 的作品曾被 Piezo、Upsammy 等 DJ 播放，並在 ANKR（台灣）與 Baroque Sunburst（英國）等廠牌發行。

兩人已在亞洲各地共同演出多場，並專注於催眠式 techno（hypnotic techno）。他們曾在日本、台中 DAO、Sonic Wanderings Festival，以及最近在嘉義東市場進行現場演出。

For its first Klubnacht at FINAL, SONO brings a Berlin format to Taipei: DJs open and close the night, with a full live techno set at its center.

Behind Tsaro are Nick Tsai and Taro. Tsai, a sound artist based in Taichung, has spent years shaping a singular modular ambient practice, he has played the Tokyo Festival of Modular, scored films, and travels constantly between Taiwan, Japan and Europe to perform his work. Taro comes out of Berlin club culture and the 48-hour weekends of Berghain, and it was this meeting that gave the project its direction: a more kinetic, danceable form of that modular energy.

Together they have performed live at DAO in Taichung, at the Sonic Wanderings Festival in New Taipei City, in Tokyo and Taipei, and most recently at Chiayi’s East Market. With Klubnacht, they turn to curating intentional lineups and bringing that energy to the club.

Around the live set, three DJs. KUAN, resident of PURE G and a regular at FINAL and Pawnshop, moves through evolving forms of techno and tribal with crisp, futuristic sonics over organic, jungle-inflected rhythm.

INN works the hypnotic end of the spectrum, threading minimal and deep tech with tribal patterns and an IDM undercurrent.

Carmen, live from Venus via Tainan, has played Wonky Forest and floors across Taiwan; her range resists a single style, the music you didn’t know you needed to hear.

SONO presents Tsaro (Nick Tsai and Taro). 90 minutes of live techno next to grandmas buying fish, motorbikes cutting through the aisles, and vendors who have worked the same stall for decades.

SONO has spent the last few years curating cutting-edge live electronic performances in Taiwan and bringing dancefloor-ready techno to stages across Asia. This one has been a year in the making, requiring a government permit and a lot of belief in a market that has run for a century.

Nick is from Chiayi and his family runs a stall in this market. He’s played gigs in Taipei, Amsterdam and Tokyo, and now finally he’s debuting his modular set back at home.

Markets are craft. Someone breaking down a chicken in front of you, picking the guavas that are actually ripe, skill that goes uncelebrated because it has been around forever and lives in places the younger generation stopped thinking were cool. We want to meet that energy with our own craft. Live, loud, in the place where it actually lives.

This will not happen again!

If you’re up north, Chiayi is a quick ride down south and worth it.

On Friday, February 20th, London label Baroque Sunburst comes to Rabbithole.

Since its inception, Baroque Sunburst has focused on a specific intersection of sound design and low end pressure. The label catalog is noted for its clinical minimalism and is frequently played by figures like Ben UFO and Mary Anne Hobbs.

Soreab is a label cofounder. He is currently on tour in Asia. His sets bridge UK bass and IDM with a focus on weighted, stripped back rhythms. Recent works have appeared on labels like Avian and Yuku and received acclaim for his recent collaboration with Om Unit.

Taiwan based Taro and dINO provide support. They have a shared history in the booth and a common interest in the deep end of the spectrum.

The event takes place the week after the Lunar New Year. A return to the club after the lunar new year break.

We welcome our final artists to the lineup, @nick.tsai.140 and @tarotunes performing LIVE!

The artists have played modular synths and electronic music for a combined period of over 15 years, and have played together 8+ times in Taiwan and Japan.

Now, instead of their typical ambient sets, they’ve linked up to get you dancing.

The show at @dao_taichung will be the first techno live set that they have played together.

Over the past few months, they’ve practiced and honed in on a sound that is modern, fast and fun.

Inspired by Berlin club nights, future Sono events will create a platform to combine both live acts and DJs.

This is just the beginning.

Taro  現居台灣，來自美國科羅拉多州的Taro 曾在柏林地下舞曲圈耕耘好一陣子，擅長操作模組與合成器創作。  他的第一張EP作品<Tendril> 引起了倫敦廠牌Baroque Sunburst的注意。 隨後單曲<Gas Burn> ，為該廠牌發行的合輯EP - Baroquism的主打單曲。該曲受到許多引領潮流DJ的親睞，ANSIA的Piezo曾在DJ Mag中，將該單曲選為2023熱門曲目之一。柏林老將Flørist也為此曲製作了Remix。  移居台灣後，Taro在泊人Ankr發行了第二張EP - <Nock>。該EP突破以往Ambient色彩的IDM風格，加入了更多Electro、Breaks、Dub等元素，與令人難以喘息的Bassline。每首曲子彷彿是一場3-4分鐘的Mini-Mix，融入了許多不同的編曲想法。 His event series SONO will have their first event at DAO in 台中 July 19th.
