Fairytale villages in France that are worth the visit.

We based ourselves in Colmar and visited Eguisheim & Kayersberg - even in the drizzle they were magic.

Pedestrian villages that feel distinctly German foodwise, with gorgeous colour houses, wine and quaint shops.

We have heard they are amazing at Christmas time for markets and decor, so get planning!

Although we drove, the train and bus connections are excellent.

Did you know there is a trick to save money on the fairytale dress up experience at Disney? We paid 50% less compared to the online booking prices.

If your daughter is like mine and has all the dresses already, dont book onlinr. Book directly you can take the "Crown Package" which excludes the dress for less than half the price. Bring your dress to the store and she will still get the whole dress up and reveal experience.

Forget Center Parcs and discover Huttopia

The price - we found it alot more affordable than Center Parcs offers with more included for the price.

The style - canvas tents and cosy cabins with real fireplaces and outdoor cooking to create that cosy glamping vibe.

The pace - slow, aesthetic and nature based as camps should be with added luxury that doesnt seem out of place (hello hot tub in the forest).

We loved Huttopia, it may have been peak summer in France yet we didnt feel crowded. We chose Foret des vosges as its perfectly tucked into a forest and a great base for exploring Alsace.

The area has mountains and lakes with excellent hiking & biking trails, market towns and picturesque views.
Nearby Colmar and a short drive from Germany, its a great roadtrip addition.

Save this for your next family adventure 🏕

Glamping in France 🇫🇷

We planned our holiday in France after discovering Huttopia online and falling in "lust" with their campsites. We knew we wanted Forests and rivers/lakes, as we would fly in from Dubai we obviously needed a tent/cabin + bedding.

5 nights in a 4 sleeper trappeur tent, peak season
August cost 1, 641€

Foret Des Vosges, does not have pitches, so you pick from a variety of cabin or tent options with or without toilet 😉 Our tent was tucked into the forest and had a large deck with cooking area, as well as a mini kitchen inside.

A bakery service allows you to order fresh pastries for the morning, along with a cafe all day with pizza options at night. There is a large town 10 minutes away where we stocked up on groceries and picnicked & BBQ most days/nights.

Aside from 2 pools, river and lake, Huttopia offer a range of free kids and family activities, plus live music at night.

The location is epic though, such a cool area we definitely could've made our stay longer had we known how much there was too do. Lakes, adventure parks, chocolatiers, hikes. More on that in the next post ☀️

That little toe in our private spa (is our daughter 🙃 cause is anything ever private when you have kids?)

Germany wasnt on our radar, we were going to fly into Frankfurt and drive straight to Alsace BUT Im so glad we decided to add in this stay.

Day 1
Dubai - Frankfurt 🛩
Frankfurt - Heidelberg 🚗
Heidelberg is stunning and such a great stop to explore - TIP * dont pay for the funicular & castle, just walk up and explore the outside + picnic in the garden
Heidelberg - Seelbach 🚗
Beautiful route through Black Forest and depending on your time, you may stop at lake
Accommodation: Ferienparadies hotel, spa & campground - we stayed in the cabin and incl. was breakfast, village pool access and 2hour daily spa use 👌

Day 2 - 4
Combination of 2 adventure hikes (see previous posts)
Exploring local villages incl. the world's largest cuckoo clock.
Exploring waterfalls, open air museums and the summer toboggan (highly recommed!)
Our accommodation was on a river with a spectacular playground which kept us super busy 😀

Day 5
Had a relaxing breakfast- its continental buffet style with eggs to order + a last play before heading over the border to France on our next adventure.

Notes: we found the food repetitive and expensive, also places close at intervals during the day and on random days 😔
Plus everywhere was fully booked, even simple cafes - no bookings online or via whatsapp (sorry we are Dubai warped) so didnt have call time to phone anywhere. Plus we just like to ramble and stop wherever, with not to much planning.

Teachers tell me you know its not true!

The age old tale of children telling their teachers the only thing they did during summer was watch a movie. Meanwhile ... planes, lakes, hikes, adventure all took place but what made it to the summer story was watching Moana.

Im not NOT saying its the best experience 🌿

Imagine walking across a river into your very own private outdoor spa, with showers, jacuzzi, and saunas. Then imagine the view through the trees onto the lake. Are you there yet?

Our campsite has a private spa, 10€ per hour and its dreamy! Firmly on my repeat bucket list for summer vacation 2027. Although ... its open in winter and I'm sure you can imagine steamy spa experiences with a snowy backdrop too!

Living my European 80s Summer Dream ☀️ No wifi, No toys. Just sunshine, picnics and family sport at a lake with a view!

With a South African passport its not often you'll find me travelling Europe, so this Summer felt SO different from our usual Asia getaways, and we LOVED it.

Ever dreamed of staying in a treehouse? Now you can complete with its own slide.

📍Seelbach, Germany

A unique choice within the black forest, with easy access to hikes, culture and cycle tracks..

The site itself has campsite pitches, cabins, and a treehouse village. Its set on a river, next to the village pool and its a perfect base for an active holiday. Cannot forget the HUGE wooden playground that keep kids entertained for hours.

Black Forest, Germany 🇩🇪

1st stop on our short summer holiday. We spent 4 nights at a campsite in Seelbach, aside from the pitches they offer cabins too. Included with the cabin is breakfast, access to the village swimming pool and full spa access.

This area is absolutely stunning, quirky towns, waterfalls and hikes. As foodies we can only say the food is average, and found waiting lists at restaurants or many closed on a Sunday or Monday. BUT we were here for the nature!
