From afar, Max is the boy with The Little Green Backpack, walking down the street. But inside this Little Green Backpack, next to some toy cars and snacks are his Adrenalin pens. No matter where we go, The Little Green Backpack comes with us, knowing that at some point we might need those pens to save his life.

I love these moments with my boy and his Little Green Backpack, the way he tells me we mustn’t go on the road. Sometimes, it’s the dangers we can’t see that are the most harmful and I wish the cars in the road was the only danger I had to be concerned about.💚

Here is my entry for Editfest 2023, the annual 30-day video editing competition held by @filmsupply

Max’s Mission is a fictional charity supporting those with life threatening allergies, helping them live life to the fullest. My little boy Max has severe food allergies and so the threat of anaphylaxis hangs over us like a dark cloud.

With the brilliant words of @cslade_ , the idea for the 60 second advert was quickly distilled. A parents point of view to their child, hoping they will have the resilience-building experiences that are our rites of passage, encouraging them to enjoy the highs and learn from the lows because all we want are ‘normal’ worries for our children. Severe food allergies dominate every experience and can be very life limiting, especially when there’s such a lack of awareness and empathy. Keeping Max safe is our priority but also making sure he lives a full life is all any parent wants for their child.

💐📜⛲️🐝 RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024

A day filled with sunshine, flowers and a splash of Bridgeton.

The gardens were beautiful and once the Chelsea Flower Show is over, the majority of the professional garden displays are donated all across the UK to brighten up various community and hospital gardens. On the final day, at 4pm at the end of the show the majority of the display flowers from exhibiting Nurseries are sold off at great prices. We came home with a trolley of beautiful plants and a stunning @david_austin_roses on its way.

Max’s Mission features a lot of moments that are rites of passage. When @cslade_ & I worked on the script, it was overwhelming how much of our lives revolve around food and drink. This highlights how challenging it is to navigate life with severe food allergies. I never want Max to feel left out so we do everything we can to make him feel included. Which means learning how to bake vegan cakes so not only can we bake together (and lick the spoon) but when we’re invited to a birthday party we have cake for him to eat so he’s not left out. I’ve swapped my fancy handbag for a Cath Kidston dinosaur lunchbox that’s always with us. I want him to be safe but I want him to enjoy life so we adapt and find ways to make it work for us. These are just a few of the moments we hope one day he might be able to experience:

1.Blowing milk bubbles, but with oat milk of course
2.Baking together
3.Freely ordering from the ice cream van
4.Indulging in cake
5.A first date
6.Dinner with friends
7.Cocktail hour
