Super excited to announce that Ooga Booga is BACK!

Still recall those days when I created it with my little team over a series of after-work hours. From playing it on paper chits to inviting our regulars to playtest it for months. Ah, glorious days!

After releasing it in 2022 and getting some feedback, we felt that the game could be better, particularly the phases and the endgame. So we took it off the shelves in 2025, took about a year to work on it again, had the privilege of testing it with some international game designers, and here we are!

Currently only delivering within Bangladesh, but hopefully we can take Ooga Booga beyond the country in the years to come! 🤞

Wait, 15 interviews already?!

About 5 months ago, back in May, I wanted to look beyond the games themselves and uncover the stories behind how they came to life. And 15 interviews later, Behind the Scenes has become one of my favorite parts of the PnP Time newsletter.

The beauty of it is that every story is completely different.

Some people figured out their game while taking long walks. Some started on a whim one fine afternoon. Some benched an idea for years before finally taking a leap of faith and bringing it back. No two stories are the same.

But there’s one thing that connects almost all of them: persistence with their craft. That inspires me a heck of a lot as a game designer, and I’m sure it does the same for plenty of other people who get to read these stories.

15 done... 985 to go? 😂 by @tasplaysgames

10 Behind-the-Scenes issues already!

I always wanted PnP Time to be more than just a platform where I share my take on print-and-play games.

As a game designer myself, I know how much goes into creating each game... and I’ve always felt that those stories are, more often than not, left unheard. They’re frankly not showcased at all.

Behind the Scenes, a series in my Beehiiv newsletter, is my little attempt to change that.

So far, getting to know the stories behind ten print-and-plays has been incredibly insightful and thoroughly motivating. Not just for me, but hopefully for all those indie designers who might be waiting for that little spark to get their journey started.

10 done, hundreds (thousands?) more to go?

Had a blast trying out Aseprite for the first time, and ended up making this little guy, a potential protagonist for one of my upcoming digital game projects!

What should I name him? 🤔

#aseprite #pixelart #gamedev #indiegames #digitalgames by @tasplaysgames

I’ve been meaning to do this for quite a while.

At PnP Time, I’ve always wanted to do more than just spotlight print-and-play games. The games matter, of course, but so do the brilliant minds behind them. The people building these worlds, shaping these systems, and pouring years of imagination into their games.

And with Bob Whitely, that has been an absolute pleasure.

Bob has been designing games for over 40 years, and '7 To Midnight' is his latest print-and-play project currently live on Kickstarter.

So here’s Bob himself, sharing a little bit about who he is, what he has created, and what’s coming next.

There’s a lot of heart behind this one!

I genuinely LOVE making Visual Playthroughs.

It’s a fascinating process, taking a game, playing through it, and then deconstructing that experience into something people can actually follow. Not just the rules, but the thought process, the little decisions, the tension, the mistakes, and the moments where the game starts to click.

This Dragon vs. Kingdom playthrough was an absolute blast to put together because there was just so much to show. Building kingdoms, choosing structures, bringing in dragons, and setting things on fire! It gave me plenty to work with, and I think that’s why the whole thing flowed quite naturally.

Easily one of my favorite Visual Playthroughs I’ve made so far.

Back to the roots!

Last week, I had the honor of joining ActionAid Bangladesh’s training on Gamified Community Action for Rights Realization as an external facilitator for the session on Planning a Successful Community Game Event.

I shared from my experience of conducting game sessions in rural areas, especially around what to consider before, during, and after a session, how to keep participants engaged, and why pre- and post-evaluation matters when games are being used for learning, reflection, and community action.

It was a pleasure speaking with the facilitators and volunteers who will be taking these gamified sessions forward in their own communities.

Wishing the team the very best for the journey ahead.

Spent a lazy weekend afternoon growing a shopping mall while vibing to some lofi music 🎧

As someone who mostly lives inside dungeons or little fictional settings through games, I had no idea how much I would enjoy something more grounded. Something real.

Like being in a job as a manager whose position, and the mall he runs, are both on the line!

That may sound strenuous, but it is quite fun.

Midtown Mall is an economic roll-and-write where you are not just chasing points while growing a mall. You are building a system. Marketing, research, product development, customer flow, facilities, and hype all start feeding into each other. One decision opens another. One track nudges the next. And before long, your little mall starts behaving like a proper business system.

From playing the base version, where you attempt to generate maximum revenue, to trying the career mode, which dishes out 4 chapters for you to turn your mall into the best one in the country, it has been a fun ride.

Kudos to Romin of Dozens of Us Games for creating something different than what I usually play, and for showing how there is magic even in the most familiar spaces around us.

Like building a local mall :)

You got less than a day to back this gem on Kickstarter!

It's not easy to create a second edition of a game.

Comparisons inevitably seep in. Any changes brought about can mess up the balance of the game. The core of the game might get tinkered with until it stops feeling like itself.

Any game designer's nightmare is listening to someone say, “eh, the previous edition was better...”

After playing Dragon vs Kingdom across a gap of 19 months between the first and the latest edition, it’s safe to say that Chris and Parker have successfully steered clear of all that!

Its biggest strength was, and is, the duality, Opponent Parasitism, and the pass-and-play structure. That core remained untouched in the 2nd edition, as it should be. The changes came through the map grid, along with the new Dragon and Kingdom sheets. And rightfully so.

Moving from a square grid to a hex grid feels like the right call, as it opens up the game for both Builder and Dragon phases. Having different types of dragons and kingdoms brings a total of 9 possible combos you can play the game with.

Thanks to Chris and Parker for letting me try the second edition, and for tickling my brain with all the interesting upgrades that made a great game all the more amazing!

…so I published my 100th newsletter issue on print-and-play games!

Whether you’re a game designer, a seasoned PnP connoisseur, or someone just beginning to explore this amazing realm, thank you for being part of this little corner that means everything to me.

From February 2025 to May 2026, there have been one hundred instances of me sitting down with my laptop and a hot cup of tea to share something from the world of print-and-play games! I started this journey weekly. About 4 issues a month. But by late 2025, that slowly grew into 13 to 14 issues a month, usually 2 to 3 issues every week. Sometimes, 4.

The reason is simple: I have too much to share.

There are new games releasing all the time. Fresh games I’m printing out and itching to talk about. Wonderful conversations with game designers that I want you to be part of. Free games I don’t want you to miss. Visual playthroughs I want you to experience almost like you’re sitting at the table with me.

And the PnP world keeps buzzing, so I keep showing up. But the best part is that you show up too. You read, reply, share your thoughts, point me toward games I might have missed, and make this feel less like me shouting into the void and more like a little table we’re all gathering around.

So to those who’ve been a part of this journey, and to those who will be, thank you!

Also, a solid nod to Beehiiv for being such a stellar platform to build this on.

Here's to the next 100!

I really appreciate games that feel approachable at first glance, then reveal more depth once you settle in.

And I appreciate that even more when a designer consistently does it while also making the games extremely adorable. That’s something Dylan Coyle keeps pulling off.

With Red Panda Surprise, players are trying to win rounds with the highest total, while also staying aware of who might intentionally go low for Surprise tokens. Then the Power Cards enter the picture, letting players swap, multiply, and mess with the flow just enough to keep everyone watching each other closely.

Someone starts saving stronger cards. Someone begins baiting high totals. Someone plays a power card at the perfect time and suddenly everybody at the table starts reassessing each other.

Being a game designer myself, I really admire how much table interaction and player awareness came out of such a compact little game. It’s so important to understand what kind of moments you want your game to create, and Red Panda Surprise feels very intentional in that regard. It wants players to read each other, react to each other, and slowly turn each round into a small social puzzle. And Dylan executed that beautifully.

Also very happy to have my in-depth analysis of the game featured on the campaign itself. The image in this post shows that feature, and it means a lot ❤️

You only got a day to back this gem on BackerKit!

A layered dungeon.

Add minions to that. Your skeletal army, each with their own capabilities. You roll dice to decide who gets assigned where, how far they move, and which path they take to cover as much ground in the dungeon as possible.

But before your minions get to move, the dungeon has its say.

Through a deck of cards, the dungeon announces its desire and decides which group of your skeletal army survives the round.

While moving, you’re trying to dodge Hexes, grab keys to reach the next level, preserve or spend Life Crystals to bend things in your favor, and keep descending till you finally face the boss.

Awesome, right?

That’s Mïnomancer.

But I forgot to mention the best part.

Even the dungeon itself can change, thanks to the configurator.

This is the second Dynamic PnP I’ve played after BYTE:SHIFT, and the configurator has taken a BIG leap here.

More than that, the game on its own is a killer. I’m genuinely curious whether Robin and Jack built the game first and then added the configurator, or if it was the other way around. Because even without the dynamic part, Mïnomancer has a lot going for it!

You’ve got less than 2 days to back this gem.
