In 2003, Tassho Pearce aka EMIRC dropped his first solo album Rhyme & Punishment. The lead single was “Honolulu” produced by Syze One. The track took off world wide and put true Hawaiʻi hip-hop on the map. We chop it up with Tassho about his early days with the Hoomanakaz, Invisible Inc, starting Flip the Bird and being in the studio with hip-hop legends.

Before Hawaiʻi had a name for its underground scene, @tassho, FKA Emirc, was already building it.

In the late ’90s and early 2000s, Tassho was a household name for a generation discovering a new language of music, fashion, and street culture. His influence stretched far from working with Kanye West, Kid Cudi & G.O.O.D. Music to creating his own sneaker line with Run Athletics.

One of the most timeless examples of his artistry is his 2004 record “Honolulu,” a reimagining built around The Beamer Brothers’ iconic “Honolulu City Lights.” More than a song, it became a snapshot of a Honolulu that a young hip-hop generation grew up in, and a reminder of the creativity coming out of the islands.

October 6th Artist Spotlight: Tassho Pearce aka Emirc

@tassho was the eye opener for me that it was possible to pursue a career in HipHop on the islands.

A lot of artist have the mindset that they have to leave the islands to make it, Tassho showed that all the big artist come to Hawaii so why not link with them while they’re here?!?

Rap won’t pay the bills in a market dominated by island reggae music, so figure a way to venture outside of rap to support your path… FLIP THE BIRD! taken in Honolulu, Hawaii by @tassho

VIRGIL FOREVER. Miss you brah!

This was one of the rare days that the guys weren’t locked in the studio so we had a field trip and I took everyone to hike up Manoa Falls. It was overcast and kind of muddy from the recent rain but we trudged through and made it to the end of the trail and they got to feel the mana of the waterfall in all her beauty. It was an Epic day, one of many. Love all you guys. Virgil’s footprint always present. The dopest in the game! Blessed to be part of the excursion. So much inspiration. Enough for ten lifetimes.

Greatest City on Earth. NYC. It’s always amazing to tap in. I understand why people visit and never want to leave. Life feels more ALIVE here. Ground zero for hip hop, the culture that enriched and gave so much to me.. But beyond that, it’s the city’s essence, the vibrations. Makes you want to sit on a corner and absorb every ounce. This place is something else. Much love to all my NY fam! by @tassho
