... first days of May and spring is officially here !!! 🌸🌸🌸🌸 blossoming cherry trees are painting London all the shades of pink .. You may have heard the story of America's first president damaging his father's cherry tree with a hatchet as a young boy... When confronted about it, he allegedly confessed and said, "I cannot tell a lie..." While it's an admirable anecdote about honesty, this is actually a myth made up by one of George Washington's biographers, Mason Locke Weems...
Think again before you decide to pluck one of these pink beauties... Removing a blossom or branch is considered vandalism of federal property in Washington, D.C., which can lead to a citation or even an arrest... The cherry blossoms and the leaves are edible and used in many traditional Japanese sweets and tea... They are first pickled and then used in recipes for mochi cakes, candies, and even cookies... You can also brew sakura blossom tea or make cocktails with preserved blossoms... :)

... I am a seeker of secret gardens.. and British gardens are by far my favourite ones.. The English landscape garden is a style of "landscape" garden which emerged in England in the early 18th century, and spread across Europe.. The English garden presented an idealized view of nature... Created and pioneered by William Kent, the “informal” garden style originated as a revolt against the architectural garden and drew inspiration from paintings of landscapes by Claude Lorrain and Nicolas Poussin.. The English garden usually included a lake, sweeps of gently rolling lawns set against groves of trees, and recreations of classical temples, Gothic ruins, bridges, and other picturesque architecture, designed to recreate an idyllic pastoral landscape.. The work of Lancelot "Capability" Brown was particularly influential.. By the end of the 18th century the English garden was being imitated by the French landscape garden, and as far away as St. Petersburg, Russia, in Pavlovsk, the gardens of the future Emperor Paul.. It also had a major influence on the form of the public parks and gardens which appeared around the world in the 19th century.. here I am at the Emmetts Garden which is an Edwardian estate located at Ide Hill, near Sevenoaks in Kent, UK.. It is now owned by the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty (National Trust)..

... during recent years end of April feels almost like summer .. I live for flower power .. I love feeling the grass underneath my bare feet.. I like to feel the textures and temperatures change as I walk from place to place... I like to be able to wiggle my toes, and to flex and bend my arches.. I like the feeling of freedom it gives me.. But I’ve got nothing to prove.. I’m just trying to enjoy myself quietly.. I walk barefoot whenever I can .. often people will say: "You are barefoot" and I'll reply: "You have shoes on" 😂😂 I am just myself and I am proud of my feet that carried me through valleys and hills, mountain peaks and seaside, lil villages and big cities, countries and continents.. it is just that simple 😊

"Traveling, I only stop at exits
Wondering if I'll stay (stay)
Young and restless
Living this way, I stress less
I want to pull away when the dream dies
The pain sets in, and I don't cry
I only feel gravity, and I wonder why"
Song by Nelly Furtado ...

It was a beautiful week-long break by the sea in North Yorkshire.. we managed to find some edible seaweed, some amonite fossils, we saw a happy seal sunbathing on rocks (my photos of her suck as my phone is an old veteran lol).. and we enjoyed the North Sea at its best, wild and unapologetic.. and today it is a happy sunny Monday morning and we are back in London ... I feel goooood :) wishing you all a successful and truly peaceful week ahead

... we finally made it .. our great escape to the beautiful English countryside.. as travelling abroad is very complicated nowadays and it is still not really advised to do so, we decided to visit North York Moors and Yorkshire Coast .. the latter stretches from the county border at Staithes to Spurn Point.. The North Yorkshire Heritage Coast forms the eastern boundary if The North York Moors National Park ..this beautiful and varied landscape is unique with high rugged cliffs, traditional fishing villages, small river inlets and wide sandy bays .. and apparently you can make friends with alpacas here and obviously sheep .. Staycation time to commence 🤗💐🐑🐏🦀⛵🌞

... in comparison to Christmas, Easter is a short-lived (egg)affair... or perhaps it is just that the pandemic has taken its toll on the way we celebrate various occasions nowadays. I am used to enjoying Spring holidays either in my grandma's house surrounded by flowers and family or having an al fresco picnic sunbathing with my loved ones... But no matter the weather I am always able to deliver a home-cooked whirlwind of flavours... Easter is officially coming to an end, but the fridge is still far from empty! Let's enjoy the sunny days ahead - picnicking and saying cheers is officially back on :)

... "weeping willow" (Salix babylonica) is probably the best known of the weeping trees, with gracefully arching stems that dangle delicately and shiver in the breeze... When the tree blooms in late winter or spring, yellow catkins (flowers) appear..
The leaves represent the balance, harmony, and growth we experience through these storms and life challenges... The willow tree gives me hope, a sense of belonging, and safety as I am a huge tree hugger.. Hugging a tree increases levels of hormone oxytocin.. This hormone is responsible for feeling calm and emotional bonding.. When hugging a tree, the hormones serotonin and dopamine make you feel happier.. :) I had an opportunity to hug this beauty before we took off to say hi to local cows followed by a lil picnic on the beach :)

... I am swinging my way into the sunny vernal April in this lovely town of Sandwich ...In medieval times and before, Sandwich was a main Kent and UK port, it was and still is, a principal Cinque Port... Before the River Stour silted up, the river was wide and deep enough for great sailing ships...Today, the ships have been replaced by smaller craft, residential and visitors moorings, but the many ancient buildings make Sandwich one of the best preserved medieval towns in England...
The name of the town is, most likely, Saxon in origin, approximately meaning sandy place, or the place on the sand... The word sandwich as an item of food came into being centuries later... The origin of the word 'sandwich' for an item of food may have originated from a story about John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich... He didn't really 'invent' the sandwich but he may have made it popular... It is said that in approx.1762, he asked for meat to be served between slices of bread, to avoid interrupting a gambling game. This story may have been rumour or adverse propaganda, put about by his rivals... But soon people may have started ordering “the same as Sandwich”, and the name stuck !
