POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hey guys! It’s me, Michaela. Let me be a little vulnerable for a minute. I’m not great at this, so please bear with me. I wanted to let you in on what I’ve been working on while I was gone, including myself, my art, and a new website (with a new name).

If you’ve been around for awhile, you’ve probably noticed that I disappeared for a bit. The last few years threw a lot at me from major life changes, becoming a mom and dealing with postpartum, losing too many people I love, facing some old wounds, and trying to hold everything together while quietly falling apart inside.

Well, I burned out.

Instead of creating, I disappeared. I stopped taking on new clients and projects and stopped making art. I completely lost myself and my love for creating, and I had no idea how I was going to find my way back.

I don’t think burnout is talked about enough, and when it is, it almost feels shameful that you’re not able to carry the weight of your burdens without a wince or dredging through the work of unpacking them. For a long time, I felt like I had completely lost who I was and what I loved.

Over the last year, I’ve been rebuilding. I’ve been working on myself, my confidence, and slowly falling in love with creating again. I’ve found my way back to tattooing, started taking on new clients and bigger projects, creating more intentionally, and even posting a photo or two of what I’ve been working on (I know, right?!) In the thick of it, I found a new love of gardening (extremely therapeutic, I might add) and with it I’ve been finding God.

I’m still figuring out what this chapter looks like, and I’m still learning how to show up without running myself into the ground. It’s been a two-steps-forward-one-step-back kind of deal.

I’m incredibly sorry to everyone I disappeared on, especially to my clients. I can’t thank you enough for sticking around, booking with me, and believing in me even when I couldn’t. You guys fill my soul in the best way. To my friends and my coworkers: I freaking love you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I’m still here, I’m creating again, and I’m really happy to be back 🖤

Oh! And check out my website for booking:

My woodcut I made for the Spit Shade III art show at the Gamut Gallery in Minneapolis for the Villain Arts Tattoo Convention opener. “The Ascendancy” is about 36”x36”. So stoked I got to be a part of this show! What a fun way to kick off the new year. It’s still on display if anyone wants to see it in person! A few extra photos to show my progress. Drew the basics on paper first before blowing it up to transfer to the block and finished the rest from there. taken in Gamut Gallery by @tatsbysnax

My girl @tru_blu_tattoos and I did our first collab this weekend at @middleofthemaptattoo and had a total blast! I’m super happy with how my moth turned out and love the final outcome of the whole piece. There’s nothing better than doing rad tattoos with your bestie, and we’re already planning for another. Thank you Katie for always sitting like a champ and for traveling just for us. We love you!
