10 years….(Warning: Long, raw post ahead.)Ten years ago today, I was a 17-year-old kid stepping onto my first job site, mixing up a batch of mortar for the first time, having absolutely no idea how much this trade would shape my life.Looking back, I don’t just see the buildings I’ve worked on, the titles I’ve earned, or the milestones I’ve hit. I see the lessons, the people, the struggles, and the growth that got me here.I’m incredibly proud that my journey started at the bottom. No shortcuts. No easy path. Just hard work, long days, dedication, and a stubborn commitment to becoming the best craftsperson I could be.I started as a labourer, became an apprentice, then a bricklayer to foreman and Ops Manager, and now part owner of @integritymasonry.ca Every single step was earned.When I started, I was 100 pounds soaking wet, hauling ass beside 35-year-old, 200-pound men. I’d get home so exhausted I’d barely make it through the front door. Half the time I wouldn’t even shower or eat. I’d just pass the fuck out, wake up, and do it all over again. Weekends? I’d be sore. I’d cry because I was exhausted and felt weak. Constantly comparing myself to people who’d been doing this for decades and trying to fit in the boys club. Being a child of immigrants does something to you. It makes you push harder than you probably need to. Looking back, I don’t necessarily love how hard I was on myself, but I’m grateful I had that fire because it got me here. At 21 years old, I became the youngest female in Canada to earn my Red Seal Brick and Stone Mason certification. That’s something I’ll always be proud of.But if I’m being honest, the accomplishment means less to me than what it represents. I hope the youth sees my story and realize they belong here too. Because masonry has taught me a lot, but above all else, it’s taught me humility.One of the biggest lessons this trade has given me is that you’re never too experienced to keep learning, never too knowledgeable to keep growing, and never too successful to stop adapting. This is what Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women looks like. ⭐️It’s all sinking in, and I’m beyond honoured to be recognized among Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women of 2024. I’ve spent my life giving to my community, advocating for women in the workforce, and uplifting others to be their most skilled, confident selves. To see that dedication celebrated in this way is humbling and surreal. My purpose has always been clear: to lead with kindness, build stronger communities, and inspire others to thrive. This recognition isn’t just for me—it’s a testament to the power of living with intention, supporting others, and breaking barriers together. 🏕️CAMP WOS 2025 🌞Literally the best weekend of the summer. I couldn’t be more proud of how much @women.on.site has grown over the years and how successful our fourth ever camp event was. To think what started as 30 women in my backyard four years ago to now hosting over 100 women in stem, construction, trades, agriculture, transportation and manufacturing in Northern Ontario for an epic weekend of connection, laughter, olympics, silent disco and so much more. It is with pride and joy to be able to organize and host these events with my amazing team. I love my career as a bricklayer but it’s thanks to WOS that I’m able to push through and continue to break boundaries in the industry. Thank you to everyone who attended, everyone who reps WOS and continues to grow this community into something amazing for everyone who needs it. I have so much joy and love in my heart for everyone who attends and is a member of WOS. Thank you thank you. Just speechless after such a great weekend. Until next year 💓Ps.
