Meet Savoy Curry, one of this year’s new Dan David postdoctoral fellows.

Curry is a historian of medieval central Europe, researching gender, sex, mobility, and civic identity in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.
Her PhD dissertation, completed at Northwestern University (2026), examined illicit sexual encounters, including adultery and sex work, with a particular focus on sexual relationships between Jews and Christians. Combining German and Latin archival documents with Hebrew responsa and commentary, her research demonstrates how the complex reinforcement and transgression of social and religious boundaries took place on a local scale, in conversation with non-elites.

As a Dan David Fellow, Savoy will begin a project that examines women’s mobility in the late-medieval world. The changing municipal approaches to citizenship in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries meant that individuals were restricted in their movement in and out of urban spaces. Savoy’s research asks how women accessed municipal infrastructures and navigated short-distance travel between cities in this changing landscape, with attention to factors of class, religion, marital status, and familial relationships.

Want to join them? You could be next! Applications for next year’s scholarship are still open. Link in our highlights. by @tauhumanities
