Mouth Close To Earth is open at Kunstmuseum Brandts :)

This is part 2 of a trilogy of exhibitions which started last year at @performanyc 🎭 and culminates next spring at @glasgowtramway 🌸 chronicling the tales of the goddess Inanna and her descent to the underworld. 👣

🌚Lilith is on view at the Hepworth Wakefield in Rhythm, Dance and Everything: The Body and Performance from Hepworth to Now🖤 This is one of my favourite museums... and the exhibition features some all time favourite artists. Encountering your work from the other side of the barrier is always a funny experience. Life has written soo many chapters since I last saw this sculpture. I was glassy-eyed remembering the feeling of opening her petals and ruffling her hair. Her name is St. Mozelle and she is named after my sister @yves_______ . She teaches me: vulnerability is holy, surrender is power, tears are cleansing, change is everlasting. I like to tell her my wildest secrets. St. Mozelle has entered the permanent collection at Tate and is currently on view in their collection display The Sovereignty of Quiet, curated by the incredible Christine Y. Kim @see_why_kay It is a gorgeous exhibition and it is free and open to the public. On until March 2027. London! Go! 💙💜🩷💛💚 taken in Tate Modern by @taulewis

In true Tau fashion I have taken months to make this post hahah. Partly because instagram gives me hives but mostly because I’ve needed time to process everything that this was to me 🫶🏼This performance was so many of the things I’ve always dreamed of doing. It brought together so many individuals I’ve long admired. It was a deeply collaborative, complex work to realize, and I just can’t believe that it all culminated in three nights. I have so much gratitude for everyone involved, and to Lyra for pouring such wisdom and love into this project, and for helping me to be present and embrace the journey from beginning to end. And to my curator, Kathy Noble (pictured in final slide, in a moment of post performance glee) who actually gave me the confidence to really experiment. To actually support an artist on a huge project is such a precious task. She urged the ideas forward and then helped me hold all of the pieces together. I feel like I’ve grown massively because of the space she created for me. It feels impossible to capture in some slides but alas I put together these photos and some of your videos to bring us back. Thank you to all who came and witnessed our performance!! I’m hopeful and excited for the evolution of this work. Hopefully will have less grainy video documentation soon.

London🖤 on February 12th we’ll be gathering on the occasion of the first major exhibition of Thornton Dial in the UK, From Bessemer to the Cosmos, at Edel Assanti @edelassanti 🦅🐟🦜🐅

Apart from being a master of improvisation and assemblage..Dial was a profoundly poetic, philosophical, secular animist image-making mythographer. His work is infused with rhythm, mysticism and wit. I am honored to be a part of this conversation with fellow artist/ friend/ hero Lonnie Holley @lonnieholleysuniverse and director of Camden Art Centre Martin Clark @martinclark76 I think this will be a deeply nourishing moment to reflect on this very important beloved artist.🖤
