The very temporary gofundme link is embarrassing, but it is what it is.

Dear internet people,
Dear followers and lurkers,
Dear peeps,
Hi,
(Nothing)

I finally gave up on regaining control of my hacked/locked profile @smsowell and am starting fresh. I may sound like a baby, but it hurts very much.

Anyway, I’ll briefly introduce myself. My name is Sharon, and I am a clinical psychologist. I was dealt a number of chronic illness cards at birth, worked myself to the ground, and totally crapped out and became fully disabled while finishing my PhD. I somehow finished but have been stuck in bed for most of the time since then. It has been eight years.

Losing my identity as a scientist, I turned back to art. I could do that in bed. I could feel a sense of accomplishment. I could express myself in ways I otherwise cannot. I could hopefully be better understood by others as well as gain insight into my inner workings. And I could finally use the art lessons since childhood and the undergraduate BFA.

It was not what I planned, but it has been a beautiful and healing process for me.

I hope that some of it resonates with you,

Sharon

Fellow artists, I hope you see my effort.
Fellow psychologists, please don’t analyze me.
Fellow disabled population, we can do this together.
Other, just thank you for looking.
Critics, rip it apart.
Galleries, please contact me.
All, I hope you see me through my art.
Bots and turds, I hope you don’t. by @taupeklo

I’ll be showing a little of my portfolio to art people this weekend. I’m going through what I have and it’s a bit overwhelming. So much, oh my goodness. Paintings, drawings, marker drawings, clay sculpture, shoe sculpture, stop motion, videos, interactive videos, clothes. It’s all very cohesive and makes me feel proud to see it as a whole. It also shows me how art has played such a huge role in my survival this past decade. Oliver and art. Mostly Oliver. Also art.

My little baby will be 17 in a few days. Meeting him was the best thing to have ever happened to me. The only constant in my life. The only unconditional love. Most certainly my angel—and an angel to others, as well. We’ve lived all over the country together—separated only once for my last heart surgery recovery. It’s hard to believe we’ve been together since my late 20s. We’ve been through a lot and so many stages of life. He is beyond precious. by @taupeklo

The link is in my bio.

Well this is mortifyingly embarrassing but I have to swallow my pride because I’m physically crashing out. Tried to make the post look less like a “help me,” but that is what it is. My best friend @nicojohn is being sweet (she’s always sweet) and set it up. I currently have almost 50 specialists who are basically throwing their hands in the air and deferring to what is essentially palliative care. Last year, I was referred to a specialist in Rhode Island who deals with complex cases like mine (Dr. Pradeep Chopra, The Center for Complex Conditions Expert care for CRPS, EDS, & Complex Chronic Pain Conditions). He is expensive (5 hour evaluations), so I have not seen him. He doesn’t take Medicare. He gets over 150 emails a day from patients trying to see him. This week I emailed him and he chose to see me and even had a cancellation on October 28th (very soon) so I don’t have to wait months/years. I haven’t publicized this, but I had another stroke-like finding on a brain scan recently and things are very shaky and disturbing for me. I woke up without vision in one eye yesterday. I do have someone who can drive me there and back, but I have no way to pay for the evaluation and treatment. I’m letting go and letting the Universe handle this.

[The link is in my bio with more information. The goal is $5k, eval is $3k plus follow-up. I know finances are shaky for a lot of people these days, so if you can’t donate, pray or something. Love you guys. Thank you.] by @taupeklo

Not feeling like writing a caption at the moment. Here’s a barrage of random stuff from this week, including the wearing of a lampshade. Yeah idk. 🐋🌿 by @taupeklo

I can’t get enough of Kim Gordon. Anyway, my feed is bombarding me with vEDS stuff today because I guess October is vEDS awareness month. Fun stuff. My mom is getting reminded of it on her feed, as well. (Sorry, Mom.)

Apparently October 4th is a memorial day for those who have died. Average life expectancy is, uh, making me feel both lucky and in danger. Seeing this stuff from the hospital is particularly fun. So is wearing a bracelet everyday that is terrifying. Fun fun. by @taupeklo

Well I won’t get into it because it’s a lot and not good, but my specialists are all meeting today to have me admitted to the hospital to be under observation for a while. (Medically, not psych…always that need to clarify. I think I’m checked out psychologically at this point.)

Oh and I had another stroke. Every day is a blessing.

(And check out the bone spur on my knee. I was a sprinter, biatches.) by @taupeklo

Wasn’t going to post this, but I was told that I’m “too unique to look like a tramp,” so here you go—just me with no makeup in a partially-finished lampshade thing with my lovely medical compression. Everyone knows I’m an oddball nun with circulation issues. Or Prince. 💅🏼

I should tag medical compression companies. Haha…. by @taupeklo

I haven’t read a book in a long time. It’s nice, but my brain has cobwebs. Too much scrolling. Re-reading about free will and determinism. A lot of it is interesting politically. I’m surprised this one isn’t banned tbh. Maybe it is.

Humanistic determinism: “Every [person] is free, but most [people], fearing the consequences and the responsibilities of freedom, refuse to acknowledge its presence in themselves and would deny it to others.” (Hazel Barnes, 1938).

Determinism vs Self-determinism: The second law of thermodynamics and entropy—time flows forward and no future scenario can ever perfectly match one from the past. “It may seem odd to think of yourself as a past-self, present-self, and future self, but as suggested in this language, your “self” is not fixed from birth, destined to a future over which you have no control. We live not only in space, but in time, and as such no matter the pre-conditioning factors nudging you along a given pathway—your genes, upbringing, culture, luck and contingent history—there is always wiggle room to alter future conditions. The river of time flows ever onward and you are part of its future.” (Michael Shermer 2026 article is good—and short). And I like this quote: “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.” (Admiral William McRaven, 2014)
