☺️ I am still at a loss for words.

Going into this tax season, I set a goal for myself, and I’m proud to say that I achieved it. As a first-year tax preparer, I was nervous, but as many of you know, everything I do, I give it my all.

I showed up tired, frustrated, exhausted, and even on the days when I didn’t feel like it. I stayed committed, remained focused, and trusted the process, and it all paid off❣️

I want to extend a special thank you to @the_alyssanicole and @deijatheceo for being incredible mentors and for pouring into me throughout this journey.
To all of my clients, thank you for trusting me with your taxes and allowing me to be a part of your financial journey. Your support means more than you know 💛✨.

This season taught me that when you keep God first, stay genuine, and truly have a heart to help people, success will follow 🙌🏾✝️.

I am excited to see what next tax season has in store. Until then, thank you all for being part of this journey.

Year one is in the books, and I’m just getting started 😏🔥

Until next season,

Xoxo,

Today on 4.8.2023 I was reborn and it feels so good to say.
Today I left behind fear, trauma, self doubt, un-forgiveness, etc and stepped into my calling and all God has promised me.
Thank you God for being patient with me. And for keeping your hand over me, when I tried to run away from my calling. I am ready 🙏🏾✝️💕

🔐 Here’s a tax tip we haven’t talked about yet: protecting your tax return BEFORE someone tries to file using your information.

Have you heard of an IRS Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN)? 👀

An IP PIN is a 6-digit number that helps prevent someone else from filing a federal tax return using your Social Security number or ITIN.

And no, you don’t have to wait until you’ve already experienced tax-related identity theft to consider getting one.

Think about it like adding another lock to your tax information. 🔒 When it’s time to file, the IRS uses that unique number to help verify that the return being submitted is actually yours.

A few things to remember:

✨ A new IP PIN is generated each calendar year.
✨ Keep your IP PIN somewhere secure.
✨ Don’t post it, text it around, or casually share it.
✨ Provide it when needed to properly file your return.

We spend so much time talking about refunds, deductions, credits, and write-offs, but protecting your identity deserves a conversation too!

Because tax preparation isn’t only about filing a return—it’s also about knowing how to protect yourself along the way. 💼🤎

Did you already know about the IP PIN, or is this new information for you? 👀👇🏾 taken in Houston, Texas by @taxedwithshaawn

😂 Y’all think making tax content is easy because you only see the FINAL take…

BABY, THE BLOOPERS SAY OTHERWISE! 😭😂

What y’all don’t see is how many times we mess up, forget what we were about to say, stumble over our words, start laughing, get frustrated, and have to say…

“Okay, ONE more time!” 😂🎬

Alllllll of these takes just to make sure I can break tax information down in a way that’s easy for y’all to understand!

Because taxes can already be confusing enough, I’m not trying to make them sound MORE complicated. 👏🏾

So yes, I might mess up 15 times before I get the perfect take… but if you learned something from take #16, I DID MY JOB! 😂💼

A little behind the scenes of Taxed With Shaáwn because apparently educating y’all comes with bloopers too. 🤣🤎 taken in Houston, Texas by @taxedwithshaawn

💰 What if this year’s tax money could help create NEXT year’s income?

Every tax season, we talk about what we’re going to buy when that money hits. 😂
And listen… enjoy some of it! But before the whole amount disappears, ask yourself:

“How can I make some of this money work for ME?”

Maybe that looks like starting the business you’ve been talking about.
Maybe it’s investing in a certification that increases your earning potential.
Maybe it’s building your emergency fund or putting money toward an income producing asset.
Maybe it’s investing for your future.

The goal isn’t to turn one refund into an overnight fortune. It’s about making intentional decisions today that can create more options tomorrow. 👏🏾

Because imagine using money you received this year to help build something that continues producing income long after tax season is over. 💼✨

Don’t just ask, “What can I buy?”
Ask, “What can I BUILD?”

Spend some. Save some. Invest some. Build something. 💛

Your tax money can be temporary or you can use part of it as a stepping stone toward something bigger.

🎩 I wear MANY hats… and every hat required an investment.

Professor. 👩🏾‍🏫
Grad student. 🎓
Esthetician. ✨
Tax professional. 💰
Mentor. 🤎
Mixologist. 🍸
Researcher & developer. 🔬
Experienced traveler. ✈️🌍
&of course… AUNTIE! 😂❤️

I’m truly a Jill of many trades, but none of these things just happened.

I invested in the classes.
I paid for the licenses.
I learned the skills.
I invested in experiences.
I took chances on myself.
And I kept creating new ways to make money and enjoy the life I’m building.

Because one thing I’ve learned is:
Sometimes you have to INVEST money to MAKE money. 💰

So when that tax money hits this season, before you spend ALL of it, ask yourself:

“How can I use some of this money to create my NEXT opportunity or stream of income?” 👀

A certification? A new business? Equipment? Education? A new skill?

I wear many hats because I keep betting on myself. 🎩✨

Now I want to know…

👇🏾 What will YOU invest in this tax season? taken in Houston, Texas by @taxedwithshaawn

✨ From ESTHETICS to TAXES…
now how did we get here?! 😂🤎

For years, esthetics allowed me to help people feel more confident in their skin. I loved educating my clients, building relationships, solving problems, and creating an experience where people felt comfortable and cared for.

Then life introduced me to a completely different industry… TAXES. 💼💰

And surprisingly, I realized my passion never really changed, the way I serve people did.

I went from educating clients about their skin to educating them about their taxes and finances. From helping people feel confident on the outside to helping them feel more confident about the numbers in front of them.

And so many of the skills transferred with me:
attention to detail, communication, patience, customer service, problem solving, and most importantly, genuinely caring about the people I serve.

I never imagined taxes would become something I genuinely LOVE, but here we are! 😂

Sometimes changing careers doesn’t mean you wasted everything you learned before. Sometimes your previous chapter was preparing you with the skills you needed for the next one.

Different industry. Same passion for people. Bigger purpose. 💛✨

📲💰 Cash App, Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, Apple Pay…
baby, changing HOW you get paid doesn’t change the fact that you got PAID. 😂

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear from business owners and side hustlers is, “Well, they paid me through an app, so I don’t have to report it.”

🚨 That’s not how it works.

If the payment was for goods or services connected to your business, it generally counts as business income regardless of whether you received cash, a check, direct deposit, or payment through a third-party app.

And here’s the part I really want you to understand:
not receiving a tax form does not automatically mean the income doesn’t have to be reported.

This is why I keep talking about STRUCTURE and RECORD KEEPING. 👏🏾
Keep track of what you earn, document your legitimate business expenses, and don’t wait until tax season to try to recreate an entire year from memory.

Because unreported income can potentially lead to:
⚠️ Additional taxes
⚠️ Penalties and interest
⚠️ IRS notices
⚠️ A much bigger headache later

Your tax professional can only properly prepare your return based on the information you provide.

Different payment method. Same responsibility.
