We had a great DO Day today! We were able to meet with legislators to discuss issues important to physicians, medical students and patients. Thank you to everyone that was able to meet with us today. Senator Johnson also won our Legislator of the Year award for 2025, for his work in SB 480 and working with us on other bills, and was presented his award today. #DOproud taken in Indiana State House by @taybachdo

I graduated residency in 2023.
In 2 years, I built a 2000 patient panel.
I double booked, saw patients late, missed my kids events, outsourced everything I possibly could and I was told over and over it wasn’t enough.

My patients were kind, healthy and cared deeply for. They constantly told me “no one has ever listened to me like this before” and “we are so glad we found you.”
It hurt me to leave them and I think about each of them often.

unfortunately, insurance does not reimburse for the extra moments it took to make someone feel seen or cared for and hospital systems have to figure out how to make money go further with risings costs.

I feel burn out is so often seen as the physicians problem but I did everything I could think of. I had a career coach (she told me to quit 1.5 years before I did), I begged to be part time, I leaned on family and friends for support and I tried every self care strategy published 😂

It wasn’t enough. We have wellness influencers convincing patients they shouldn’t trust healthcare and a government who discredits science and cuts funding for healthcare. I have worked hard to advocate for healthcare and our patients at the state and national level because the system cannot be fixed by blaming insurance companies, government officials or hospital systems. This has only given people the ability to pass blame. I hold hope that there is a better future for our healthcare system. I know so many doctors who care about their patients and their outcomes. We have to advocate for each other too. by @taybachdo

My last few long runs have ended earlier than I would have liked. Today felt GREAT. I’m not sure if it was the cooler temps, the extra water yesterday or the weekend of resting my body but I know the matching fit helped. 😂

ACOFP annual convention always brings me so much joy but this year might have been the best yet!

I had incredible opportunities to represent Indiana as a state delegate for the 4th year, speak for the first time, and catch up with friends from the future leaders conference.

I’m eager to serve on a committee for the first time this year and even though there may not be fireworks,
I’m looking forward to being closer to home in Louisville next year!

Hypertension or “high blood pressure” often goes undetected but a lot of times, even when we know it’s high, patients don’t want to treat it.
There are several lifestyle modifications that can help lower blood pressure but if those things aren’t working it’s important to start medication to protect your brain, heart and kidneys from the damage of long term hypertension.

It’s the end of the year and if you have CME money left it’s a great idea to use it on memberships for state and national societies!
These organizations advocate for the physicians they represent, give back to medical students and residents and provide quality CME opportunities.
If you are a medical student or resident, it’s a great idea to look into joining now as some are free and most are discounted while you are in training!

When I went to medical school I knew it would be hard to balance being a wife, mom and doctor. I didn’t consider what it would look like to continually give up pieces of myself to achieve these goals or how it would feel putting them all back together one day.

I chose medicine because I wanted to help people. I wanted a secure job that would afford me flexibility even if it took years of training, hard work and sacrifice. I wanted to make a difference for others. Medicine has changed a LOT even since I started my journey. I never would have expected that being a doctor would require legal, financial, and political knowledge in addition to all of the basic science and medicine I studied.

I just want to help patients and enjoy my family.

Did you know you could use Flonase wrong? Because it took me 3 years of medical school, to learn how 😂😂

But in all seriousness, if you use Flonase or if you are a provider make sure you actually know how to use it correctly for the best results!
