Although we are currently without electricity, guests were still stopping in and shopping - not noticing that our lights are off.

This is my reminder that our presence is bright. And that our light goes beyond the electricity that powers the chandeliers. It’s something different. Taylor + Max is more than a place to shop. It’s a place where people are seen, heard and celebrated.

We want our guests to be safe and comfortable.

Due to downed power lines and no internet connection, we will be closed for the rest of the evening. According to Rock Energy, restoration could take up to 24 hours.

We will keep everyone posted regarding whether we will be open on July 4th.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support.

At Taylor + Max, we celebrate heritage, honor culture, and believe that every child deserves to learn the truth of history.

These two beautiful books help introduce the story of my ancestors- from their journey from Africa to North America- in a way that opens the door for learning, conversation, and understanding.

The 1619 Project: Born on the Water and Your Legacy: A Bold Reclaiming of Our Enslaved History are just two of many books written from our perspective. They serve as a meaningful introduction to African American history and is a reminder that our history belongs in every home, every classroom, and every heart willing to listen and learn.

Because when we teach children to honor the past, we help them build a kinder and thoughtful future.

We are excited to share these stories along with others right here in our shop.

And I must give a shout out to the local bookstore The Inkwell for also sharing stories of American History and for celebrating Juneteenth with us.
