Sunflower 🌻

When I was a kid,
my Granny would always buy me a perfume called Sunflower.
And I loved it
almost as much as she loved her White Diamond.

Maybe that’s why sunflowers always stood out to me.
Before I knew anything about symbolism,
grief, or what it meant to truly miss somebody,
they were already my favorite.

Bright. Warm. Familiar.
Like something I had known my whole life.

But they mean something different now.

Now every sunflower feels like a reminder
of a relationship so rare,
so nurturing,
that I didn’t realize how much of me
was grown by her love.

She gave me Sunflower as a child,
and somehow, all these years later,
she became one.

Something beautiful I’ll always look for.
Something that will always remind me
to turn toward the light. 🌻 by @taylorbear87

This time last year, I had no idea where life was taking me and my baby. 😭 We lost our home, our stability, moved across the country, house to house, school to school… and I questioned everything.

Whole time, God was moving us. 🙏🏿❤️

A year later, we’re in OUR home, my baby finished 9th grade, and after everything meant to break us… we prevailed.

God knew. I didn’t. But He knew. 😭🙏🏿❤️ taken in Buckhead Atlanta by @taylorbear87

This ain’t regular sadness.

This is the kind of sadness that reaches the little-kid part of me. The part of me that still sees my Granny as home, safety, prayer, history, and love all wrapped into one person. The part of me that remembers her voice, her smell, her sayings, her laugh, the way her house felt, and the way she looked at me like I belonged.

Losing somebody like that makes the ground under you feel different. It feels like a piece of my foundation shifted, and now I’m trying to figure out how to stand without one of the people who helped make me who I am.

Granny, thank you for loving me. Thank you for being my home. Thank you for being part of my story in a way nobody else could ever replace. I’m going to carry you with me for the rest of my life.

Your love, your lessons, your spirit, and your memory will always live in me. I will. I will never stop loving you. Rest peacefully, Granny. 🕊️🤍 by @taylorbear87
