Everyone is talking about agentic AI, saying it will revolutionise everything. But @realjohnelder says it’s a “fraud” and a “dog and pony show”. What’s going on? Agents of change? Agents of chaos? Agents of false promises? All of the above?

OpenAI’s president is calling Astra the moment AGI arrived. It’s a big step forward towards a more agentic AI future where these systems can do complex tasks on a user’s behalf without their input.

From The Verge:

The company calls it a “generational leap in capability” for areas like cybersecurity, professional work, software engineering, science, and computer use. As OpenAI announced earlier this week, it’s also the first model designated as meeting OpenAI’s “critical cybersecurity capability threshold” — but the company promises that won’t lead to a repeat of its models hacking a rival company’s internal systems.

“If we fast-forward a couple of years, and we look back and say, ‘When was it, really, that AGI was created?’ I think it’s going to be about this time, and I think it might be about this model,” OpenAI president Greg Brockman said during a Thursday press briefing. Later in the call, he added, “For me personally, I do think we’re there … I think it’s not unreasonable to feel that we are now in the AGI era.”

The news comes more than a year after the release of GPT-5, and nearly two months after the release of GPT-5.6, the last iteration of the previous model suite. The model rolls out today to enterprise OpenAI’s cybersecurity customers (enterprise customers with access to its Daybreak platform). Over the next several days, OpenAI president Greg Brockman said, it will be released to all Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users. It’ll also be available via the OpenAI API and AWS. by @taylorlorenz

AI agents can do everything for you (or they will be able to) if you let them. But how much money would you let your agent loose with to spend on your behalf without you? The reality is not far away.

Taylor Lorenz breaks down how “protecting children” became the playbook for passing authoritarian speech laws from Russia and China to the West, and why SpaceXAI is fighting it:

“They never actually cared about any of that. They just want control over our information ecosystem, and that is what politicians on both sides of the aisle want. They want control, and they can’t go out and say that. They’re not gonna be like, hey, by the way, it’s top-down censorship. But they’re still gonna enact that regime, and they’re going to do it through child safety.”

“We’ve seen this happen in countries across the world. This is how Russia enacted their speech laws in the early 2010s. This is how China has enacted its speech restrictions. It’s always under the guise of protecting children. Look at Europe right now. It is insanely authoritarian. It’s a complete racket.”

“None of these people care about protecting children, and they’re weaponizing a lot of well-meaning people, like these parents that have suffered horrible losses, like their children have taken their own lives. They’re weaponizing that to push this authoritarian political agenda.”

“You could look at the Minnesota law as well, the anti-deepfake law that
@SpaceXAI
 is rightfully fighting. It seeks to put liability on developers for how people use these products. This is how authoritarian countries like China and others operate, and we shouldn’t seek to replicate that.”
